Amber Elizabeth was born Monday, June 22, 2009 at 8:38pm
PST. She weighed 6 pounds, 10 ounces and
is 19 inches long. She has her Grandma's chin, the
infamous Stevenson eyebrows (yeah!! or LaDuc?)
and looks a lot like her cousin Charlene did when she was
first born. She is SO precious!!! Again
I wanted to thank you SO much for all your prayers for
which I think she would not be here if it
weren't for them.
Hope everyone has a great time at Beth's wedding and Uncle
Tom and Aunt Esther's 50th anniversary
party. I only wish we could make it. I love you all!
Love, Erin

Sally, I hope you are having a fun filled birthday. How old are you now, 23?
I am remembering the great trip we had with you to Florence, Venice, Pisa,
Murano, Ravena, and all the unfancy hotels we stayed in then. You were such
a great sport and so much fun and fearless.
And then we came home to Zurich and Tony fixed and served us a great
dinner.
And we went to the Broken Haus and found a few treasures.
That was our first trip to Europe and I was so scared of all the things that
might go wrong and a few did but you made us feel so welcome and were so
adventurous.
We all our going to have so much fun in July.
Love you and wish you all the best.

That photo was taken last summer....I clearly remember all
the scaffolding that was up for what seemed like
forever....Everyday when we went to mass before school, we
had to be careful moving around the scaffolding and
walking on the canvas tarps that were all over the church
floor...I bet there is a record of all that expense
somewhere....Fun Stuff!

Brother James,
Your question prompted me to do a little research.....
all the way to our wedding album.
Sure enough, there is the mosaic - exactly like Johnny's
picture.
It is not a mural, but a mosaic. Don't you remember that
Msgr. Hermes had artisans come over from Rome and do it.
It was a major piece of work. Wouldn't it be fun to know
how long it took to do it - every tiny, little piece; what
it cost and exactly when it was done ??? It will be great
to see it again.
Does anyone know any more details on it ?

Tom, and the rest of this loving family,
Thanks for putting that info out there. We knew what
the game plan was but didn't realize no one else did. We
can't wait. Tony has never seen PB. I always tell him it
looks like something out of Italy. He said he'll have to
judge for himself on that one. I can also sing (if you're
sure).
Families with kids need to please call or e-mail me
with questions and or for information on what you'll need
to bring. This will be a full house & it is an out
door event. You will need to bring all your grab. There
will be a bouncey thing for the small ones. We want
everyone to have a great and safe time while they're here.
We know it'll be wonderful, and thanks too in advance for
doing your part to make it so.
My love to you all, Sal

Just a reminder that July 12th is the date. The plans are for my parents to
attend Precious Blood (Now St Peter Claiver) for Mass that Sunday morning.
Mass is at 10:00am. They are hoping that the Stevenson siblings can sing, and
my Dad got preliminary permission for that today. It is their hope that as many
of the siblings as possible can also attend. This may not have been spelled out
clearly before, sorry about that. My mom woudl also like to take a photo at the
church of all who wre in attendance at the wedding on August 1, 1959.
The party will be at Sally and Tony's starting at 1 or 2 pm (thank you so
much for offering your yard for this. Invites confirming all this will be going out
soon. In the meantime can you send a note to Debbie letting her know if you
will be able to make it to the 10am mass. Thank and looking forward to the big

Author: mommy0703@aol.comLATEST MEMBER OF THE STEVENSON FAMILY
Hi Family:
The newest member of our family was born at 12:02 this
morning. Erin Boudreau gave birth to LOLA CATHERINE
weighing in at 7lbs. 15oz.
The Lord has blessed this family with another healthy,
beautiful baby with four more on the way: Jordan &
Christina's due June 8th; Erin & Scott's also due in June;
Jeff & Shelley's due July 18th and T.J. & Rachel's due
October 17th. What an exciting year with sooooo much to
celebrate!
The anticipation is building for Beth & Dave's wedding and
Tom & Esther's 50th anniversary...a brand new marriage and
one that has been 50 years in the making. It doesn't seem
possible. It will be a glorious weekend.
By that time we should be settled in to our new lakefront
apartment. I can hardly wait. It's awesome...waking up
every morning to such beauty (especially in the spring and
summer).
I have a part-time nanny job for Mike Ilitch Jr.'s 10
month old son, Alex. Mike & his wife, Noelle, are very
nice people and Alex is a doll. I'm getting very attached
to him. It's been a good job with flexible hours, close
to home. As he gets older, we'll see if I can keep up
with him....he can really wear me out.
Our gang is doing good; we're all trying to keep our heads
above water in this shaky economy. But we know who our
source is; no need to fret, it only causes harm the bible
says.
See you all in July.
With my love, Nancy

Author: njoynjohn@gmail.comA Mere 46 Years
Hiya Family!
Hiya!
Hiya!
Hiya!
As most of you know, I am somewhat of a golf nut. I've
been playing now for a little over 46 years.
I've never been really good at it but I have always
enjoyed the game.
For the last twenty years or so, my goal has been to break
80. For you non-golfers, that may not mean anything but
for the average hacker that's a pretty big deal. I have
come close, shooting 80 forty or fifty times over the past
almost half century.
With all my various parts replacements and the the
associated aches and pains that accompany approaching old
fartness, I thought my window of opportunity was about
ready to slam shut.
Until today.
Today I finally did it. I broke 80, shooting a 79 at one
of my favorite courses.
The only thing that kept the day from being
absolutely perfect was that Nancy had to work and didn't
get a chance to see it.
I may never do it again, but now I can die a happy
man! : )
Life is good.
Can't wait to see everybody in July.
I love you all.

What is the latest Stevenson census? Anyone know?

Hello Everybody,
I just finished talking with Billie (He sounds fine)
about the Video Liza put up on the Circle Letter.
The song on the Video is:
A TIME FOR LOVE by
Johnny Mandel with lyrics by Paul Francis Webster
from the Movie ~ An American Dream (1966) ~
Below are the Lyrics
~~~~~~~~~
A time for summer skies
For hummingbirds and butterflies
For tender words that harmonize with love
A time for climbing hills
For leaning out of windowsills
Admiring daffodils above
A time for holding hands together
A time for rainbow coloured weather
A time of make believe that we've been dreaming of
As time goes drifting by
The willow bends and so do I
But all my friends whatever skies above
I know a time for spring
A time for fall
But best of all
A time for love
A time for holding hands together
A time for rainbow coloured weather
A time of make believe that we've been dreaming of
As time goes drifting by
The willow bends and so do I
But all my friends whatever skies above
I know a time for spring
A time for fall
But best of all
A time for love
I love you all
Hey, just want to let you all know that Rhea and I have set a date for our wedding here in
Flagstaff, October 17, 2009. Hopefully many of you can make it.
The wedding will be held at the Arizona Snowbowl Ski Lodge outside of Flagstaff. The lodge is at
about 9,200 feet elevation. The fall aspen colors should be pretty at that time of year.
To Star: Your bike riding passion is awesome. Thanks for sharing. It must be something that runs
in the family. In the past several years I have taken up endurance mountain bike riding and
racing. Below are some pictures from my most recent race. The Prescott Whiskey off road 50 proof
(50 mile) race.
Unfortunately, I crashed during the race and my face became intimate with a rock. Fortunately my
Fun pictures from a recent race that members of my team travelled 34 hours to in Tucson Arizona.
Two teammates and myself beat out 1100 racers and finished with the local professional riders on a
flatish course that allowed for perfect drafting. We finished the 73.4 mile course in 2 hours and
45 minutes with an average of 25.4 mph! Breaking the 3 hour barriers allows us to be seeded in a
special roped off section next year with the pros and tandem racers. At one point we were humming
along at 36mph on a perfectly flat section. I wish I had started riding a bike with aggression in
my very early teens and had spent some time in Europe...
Sonoma County (near the mouth of the Russian River), at Goat Rock State park to Southern Marin
I proposed to my girlfriend!
Her name is Rhea. She is a school teacher (like my mom).
Some of you got to meet her last last Halloween in Las Vegas. And as you know we have a habit of
dressing up a little silly. That is one of the things I like about her. This picture is of us at
Author: jis@windgifts.comIts been a long time
Well, Hello everyone. It has been about six months since I
last sent out a letter. My old computer crashed and I
never got it fixed. So now I hope I can receive and send
messages to everyone I love in this family.
Diane and I are living with Don and Kelly and it is great
to be around the grand kids. Madison is quite the lady.
She loves school and has been on the honor roll since the
second grade.
Peyton is going to be 4 years old in August and he is a
real kick. He is 200% all boy and is so independant that
it makes us crazy. He is a blast to be around.
Don's two girls, Meghan and Laura were here last week and
then Don and I took a road trip and drove them back to
Lawton Oklahoma. We did this non stop.
I believe that everyone knew I had another back problem.
It had been around for about 8 months and it was very
painfull. I finally went to the doctor and asked if he
could do anything until I get medicare in June. Well he
gave me some samples of LYRICA and told me to try them for
a week. It was a miricle. The back pain has gone away and
I hope it never comes back.
Diane is doing well. She gets a little stir crazy once and
a while and she is looking forward to July.
Gregg, Laura and the boys are doing ok. Things have been a
little tough for Gregg but I am sure he will come out the
winner he is.
Brad is a working fool and he had the greatest miricle
anybody could ask for. Most of you know that Brad had very
bad eye sight and it was only getting worsr as he got
older. Well he found this young eye doctor who frlt he
could help Brad out. It was a miricle. This doctor took
out catracs in Brads eyes and implanted special lenses.
Brad now has 20/30 vision. It has changed his life and I
got to tell you it was the most exciting phone call I had
ever received after he had the first eye patch removed and
he could not believe how he could see. He said "dad I saw
my shadow today" it maid me cry. This was our miricle.
I now have been working at Sun Lakes United Methodis
Church for one tear. I am one of the custodians and the
people are great. I work 40 hours a week and get paid
holidays, paid vacations and paid sick days.
In June I start to receive a small pension from Crucible
and maybe Diane and I can rent a small house close to the
kids.
Well I have rattled on here for quite a while and I better
go. It will take me a while to read all of the letters and
to look at all of the pictures. Johnny, I hear you have
quite the blog site and I am looking forward to seeing it.
I love you all.
Here is a picture of the said people having a b-day today (with a Lil Roxy thrown in for good
measure!) Thank you very much, Aunt 'Mare', as I have not been mentioned on this Circle Letter on my
birthday in many moons now. I appreciate you thinking of me. No, I don't know of any younger
generation child sharing our b-day. (but ya never know)
I believe there are two birthdays in this family that I
know about today... Matt Stevenson and Lisa Kight..am I
right?
Well... I hope both of your days are AWESOME and I hope I
am not missing someone else's birthday....It seems there is
a newer generation baby that also shares this day too...
but ...I am not sure... My friends at work joke with me
saying " your family is so big...there is probably
someone's birthday every single day of the year!" So if
I've missed someone...I am SO SORRY...and I hope this is
the best birthday to date!!!!
I should have known with this family that if you miss a
second you miss everything! How great to hear about so
many others in the family who are expecting as well! We
are excited to know we are not going it alone and that our
little baby T. will have others to hopefully meet and grow
with that will be the same age. Glad to hear that those
who have / had been struggling are finally receiving good
news and continue to have high hopes. Optimism is
everything in my book. I am curious when everyone's due
dates are though and how many the family is now expecting
for 2009. Jeff and I are supposedly due July 18th. If
someone could create a list for 2009 babies I would love to
see it. Love to all.
These are digital photos that I simply took close up of
very old photos, which is alot easier than converting them
at some photo store or scanning..
The first photo is the oldest of the James and Eunice
children. The oldest of the "lovin dozen"
James Irving Stevenson (junior of sorts), my mom Suzanne
Roach. I figure this photo was taken in
the sixties,before I (Star Stevenson) was born.
The next photo is that of my wife Jennifer Stevenson, just
a few years before we met! Then finally
the two picutes of me, the first smile likely meant I
needed to pee and the second smile means I
had my favorite "Toughskin" jeans on!
Can't wait to see all of you at my sister Beth Stevenson's
wedding and at Tony and Sally Lucca's
house the day after.
Author: jamg1971@aol.comMystery Girl and Plymouth Stevenson Update
Actually that "mystery girl" is Kathy. What great pictures.
It's been awhile for us here, from the Plymouth Branch.
Things are going well here. Emilie is doing very well,
fully adjusted to the antibiotics, and she can swallow her
pills too!! Jeanne does have to carefully monitor the
scheduling of all the meds so her thrush doesn't come back,
and keeping the good bacteria there adn the bad out. She
does a great job with this. A bit of a juggling act, but,
Antibiotics, wow, a far cry from chemo! Thanks be to God.
The Dr.s still don't understand how all this changed so
quickly, never seen this before, but we KNOW, don't we! We
are so grateful. Emilie faithfully keeps her nightly prayer
list going, now over 40 people she prays for by name each
night, most of them kids. We believe that is what we are
now called to do after this awesome healing for her. She is
back to full normal, no restrictions and the bone and
surgical site are healing very well. She starts softball in
a week or so, who would have thought! Dillon starts track
on Monday and both Emilie and Dillon are also in a play,
Mulan, which run in May. Carly has just started volleyball
again for he spring season and just loves it. High school is
going very well for her. Sophie is doing great too, she just
got back from putting on a parish mission with 8 of her
classmates from college, they had an amazing experience,
they put on and lead all the talks for the week. She has
also been selected to be a chaperon on her alma matters
Mission trip to the Dumps of Mexico over Easter break. She
is so excited! (I'm a little envious, I wish I could go
again with her, but not this time) The biggest news for her
is that she has been accepted to Nursing school - boy is she
thrilled! The competition is so intense, they only take 50%
of the applicants. So in just about two years Nurse Sophie
joins the work force! Yeah
Jeanne and I are doing well, hanging on at work and Jeannes
cards business is still doing well.
A blessed lent to all, Love Tommy and crew
Hi there~
I know that the boy in between the two cars IS Dad but I
don't think the photo is from 1917 unless it is printed on
the picture by the developing company... I have another
phot of dad about4 years later near a similar car and he
looks the same only alittle older than this photo... how
can we get a copy of that one? It is awesome and so clear!!!
Funny how these photos have been around for over 55 years
(my whole life) and I've never seen them till now... how
long have you had them James?
I also want to say that the baby with great grandpa looks
more like dad from the side but the baby alone in the photo
just before is Uncle Bobby... I can tell because I have
more baby photos of Uncle Bobby and you can see his left
ear is exactly the same as the ones abit older and he has a
different expression than dad... I will download the ones
I have of Uncle Bob and of Dad and I think you will be able
to tell... but this is just flipping me out to see all
these new photos showing up like this... Suzanne ...what a
"natural" beauty ... in the photo of Zip as a baby
and in the photo of Scott's birth too... hard to believe
you had just given natural childbirth with no one there to
help but James and that you are even able to STAND is
BEYOND me!!!!
Great stuff... I'm gonna dig through all my photos ASAP ....
Hello Matt Amy, Liam, & Lochlan
Great letter Matt!
Every time I read your letters I learn something.
For instance:
1. Eponymous: (E~pon~a~muss)
¥ adjective 1 (of a person) giving their name to something. 2 (of a thing)
named after a particular person.
and
2. GIS-based vegetation change analysis for the Nature Conservancy
and the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, looking at the
habitat of the Streaked Horned Lark on islands in the Columbia River.
[ GIS ~A geographic information system that captures, stores, analyzes,
manages, and presents data that refers to or is linked to a particular
location. ]
Having sand dumped directly on you and your nest is a major pain!
The picture of you guy below the "STEVENSON sign is a kick.
I will included a photo of a "eponymous" person along with some other
pictures in my very next letter. Hope you and all who see them find some
enjoyment in them!
Love you.
Hi All,
Last week the family and I went to the Wildlife Society/Society for Northwestern Vertebrate Biology
conference at the Skamania Lodge in STEVENSON Washington. It was so cool to see our family name all
over the place--in fact, the conference room where I presented is called 'Stevenson A'. To top it
all off, I just spoke with my folks and it turns out they stayed in the exact same hotel room at the
lodge when they came through the NW several years ago. Amazing!
I had trouble learning very much about the eponymous founder of Stevenson, WA except that the
townsite was purchased by a native Missourian named George Stevenson in 1893. Probably not related
to us, but interesting nonetheless.
We all had a great time--Amy and I learned a lot about recent scientific developments in the field
of wildlife conservation and management, the boys went swimming and hiking (and even saw a pileated
woodpecker!), and we sampled the fine beverages on offer at the Walking Man brewpub. Fortunately, my
presentation also went well. (For those of you who are really curious, it was about a GIS-based
vegetation change analysis I did for the Nature Conservancy and the Washington Department of Fish
and Wildlife, looking at the habitat of the streaked horned lark on islands in the Columbia River.
The analysis is being used to guide the US Army Corps of Engineers' timing and location of dredge
spoil deposition resulting from their efforts to keep the channel navigable. Larks really like sandy
nesting sites, but it turns out they don't like it so much when the sand is dumped directly on them
and their nests).
I hope everyone is doing great.
Cheers!
Remember on the recent family CD when Mom said "Billy, you
She knew TJ "had it"...etc. Well, I wish Bill had sung all
of his career instead of just during the later years. What a
talent! "What are you doing the rest of your life" has to be
one of the hardest songs to sing and he nailed it. Gerry
does a great job on that song too.
And look at Mary; she used her voice all her life and now
she's one of the most amazing singers we know. The older I
get the more I'm in awe of what Mom & Dad passed down to us
I told James that couldn't be Mattie as she was gone when I came into the
We remember Dorothy as a small thin lady who was in Mom and Dad's RV
Did she get big near the end?
Scott, I agree with you on the Circle Letter merits. The family is so large now
two or more sites will work.
We have a tape of Billy singing and playing a bunch of love songs. We played
it yesterday on Valentines day in the car as we drove around enjoying the day
and getting some things done.
He is going to put it on the Circle Letter as soon as he can figure it out. I
know there is alot of tapes out there of the family music to be put up. I
Author: gerryandkelly2@aol.comWhy I Love Our Family Circle Letter!
Greetings everyone,
I thought I would take a moment and share some thoughts about why I love
our family circle letter. I realize that most of these are obvious but there's just
something about putting such thoughts into words that really means so much more!
It has been nearly 11 years now that this electronic version has been in place
and it has become quite a record of events in the lives of our families in that
time, recording tragic stories as much as uplifting ones.
I love our family circle letter because of it's openness. Any family member
(and even family friends :-) from any age or generation can come onto our family
circle letter and express his or her views equally here.
I love our family circle letter because it is "our" circle letter, we've all
contributed to it and have kept it's fire burning over the years. And now we've
all shared in it's funding which makes it even moreso "ours"!
I love our family circle letter because it is neither secular or religious, it is an
all INCLUSIVE neutral ground open as much to sincere heartfelt expressions
of emotion through praise as it is to other sincere heartfelt ways of expressing
one's emotions.
I love our family circle letter because it let's us know what's going on and
helps us stay connected with everyone in an open and sharing way.
I love our family circle letter that allowed us to follow what was happening
with Sally & Tony while they lived in London.
I love our family circle letter that allowed us (through the assistance of Matt)
to follow the far-off adventures (and misadventures) of Uncle Dan's Andy and
his then wife Lynna while they were on tour in Papua New Guinea with the Peace
Corps.
I love our family circle letter now more than ever with photos because I can
see what's happening and see what has happened.
I love our family circle letter because it's always a pleasure to send and read
happy birthday greeting to those who are celebrating them.
I love our family circle letter because it allows us to spread word of the need
for support of given family members or friends.
I love our family circle letter now more than ever because we can see photos of
people from the past and present!
I love our family circle letter now more than ever because thanks to forethought and
work of my Uncle Johnny I can hear my Grandma, Grandpa, Aunts & Uncles when
they t'weren't much more than whippersnappers! And I can hear the voices of relatives
I didn't have the chance to meet in my lifetime!
I love our family circle letter now more than ever because I can share a family
video I took like this one from June 2004 below!
James, that is the BEST picture of you and mom! I love that
look in your eye and also your hand looks so young....not a
vein or wrinkle. :o) Also, I knew that couldn't be gramma
Mattie. Gramma used to tell me that she was always
concerned about how she was going to look in the casket and
that she wanted Henry Suchaval at Ted Sullivan's to prepare
her because she knew he was the best (from Dad). Anyway,
when I saw gramma at the funeral home I said to her,
"Gramma, you would be so happy if you knew how good you look."
She only weighed 67 pounds and yet he captured her perfectly
if you remember. Mom looks absolutely fantastic in that
picture (Janie thinks it's Aunt Dorothy. I agree.)
The picture of Tony & Sally is their best one yet. Wait til
they see it. Where were they...in California?
I'm looking so forward to July. What a celebration for the
whole family.....a 50th anniversary, milestone birthdays,
two great grandchildren (Erin's and Shelley's) arriving and
two great, great grandchildren (Erin Boudreau's and Jordan
Boudreau's (Christina) arriving all within a few months of
each other. Anyone else out there?? The Stevenson family
just keeps on growing and blessings abound!
My love to all of you.
That's right, Dan. You were always Mom's sweet,
mild-mannered choir boy and probably altar boy who she was
sure was going to be a priest. No wonder you never got a
spanking. And also, she had to wait three years for you;
she even prayed for another baby after Bob (her fifth).
You're still sweet and mild-mannered.
Hey guys,
When I, Tommy and Billie first went out
to beg for candy on Halloween, we did-not
use thee term "Trick of Treat". The term we
use at the door was:
"Help The Poor".
When we lived on Lauder St. I used to
get spanked a lot and every time I was spanked
I peed my pants. Every time. I know it must
have hurt Dad's hand to spank us so hard.
After every spanking I would think of at least
a 1,000 way to kill Dad for spanking me. I was so
humiliated and hurt both physically and emotionally.
Great memories......
Well maybe not all great memories.
Nancy,
Dad only officially spanked me once in my life (that I
can remember), and I also wet my pants, but I was 10...it
was devils night in Detroit....and we were out ringing
doorbells...Mr Tracy (lived on the corner of Heartwell and
whatever that street was... Florence?).....his side door
didn't have a doorbell so everyone would kick the storm
door....so, when I kicked it, it caved in, and somehow Dad
found out...I decided to hide in PB church...well Dad
found me, took me home...down the basement..at least ten
licks..a little came out with each lick...but that wasn't
the worst part...I had to stay in my bedroom all
weekend...I couldn't go trick or treating.....even though
I deserved it, (Dad had to pay for a new storm door) I
thought I would just die watching all the kids trick or
treating....
OK you guys! Even though I have 5,000 things to do, I must
share some great memories....Nancy' memories. Some dad
memories are 1) many times when he would come home from a
job late at night I would smell something really good and
I'd go into their bedroom and he would open up his accordian
and there would be Green's hamburgers and chocolate
milkshakes. It was the best; they would always share with
me. 2) when mom would be in the hospital having a baby,
believe it or not, dad would pack our lunches and they would
be so extravagant compared to mom. No newspaper wrapping,
baby ruth bars, pears etc. We loved that. And one more, I
only got two spankings from dad. When I was about 3-4 I
played with matches and started something in the fireplace
on fire (paper or something). Dad put me over his knee and
spanked me and while doing that, I peed on him:) The other
one was for going in the water at the gravel pit!! after
eating when we were told not to. He spanked us in the pent
tent after we waited for him to come home. I think Tom and
Bill and Bob got it too. With wet bathing suits it hurt!
Aunt Cora was Grampa Stevenson's (James Ira) sister. Mary,
did you think she was our great great aunt? I think Aunt
Fred was our great, great aunt. I'm glad to finally learn
she was from the Rand side. Do you remember her Mitchell
Greeting Cards and of course her Reed's butterscotch candies.
Mattie loved Bing Crosby the most. Next letter I'll tell
you about the dream she had about him. We used to massage
her whole head and sometimes rub her finger....we never
could say no. I don't remember getting paid for it; just
you young ones got money. She passed down a scrabble
legacy. Gramma, Danny, & I would play all the time til the
wee hours of the morning. We played til about 2:00 A.M. on
Sunday, August 27, 1961 and I went into labor at 4:00 A.M.
Nancy Jr. and Danny are two of the best players I know.
I have so many memories about Gramma Mattie that I have to
wait til next letter...this is too long already. Gerry, I
can't believe you remember so much about Gramma. You were
Casey's age when she died (almost 9). She loved you so
much; don't we all?
One more awesome memory about Kitty Rand (sibling great
grandmother). I vaguely remember her but I always heard
wonderful things about her, especially we were told that if
anyone talked bad about someone in her presence she would
always say "charity....charity". How sweet! She must have
tamed her tongue:)
More to come. My love to you all.
I found a great "Eagle Scout" Jack Knife on Lauder St.
in Detroit and grandma Mattie saw me playing with it
(I was 5 or 6) and said, you better
give that to me till you are older
and when I was older and asked for the
knife back she said that she have given it
to the Salvation Army years ago.
Talk about being bummed out.
"Grandma..... why did you do that???"
When I was 4 or 5, I use to collect discarded popsicle
sticks out by the curb.
Mom was NOT very happy that I did that.
In the house on Lauder (Detroit) 1945
Papa (Grandpa) would line us all up (maybe Nancy),
Billie, Tommy and me at the end of the hall and
have us run at him as fast as we could into the
living room and he would catch us and
throw us up in the air as far as he could
(scaring us half to death). We would laugh
so hard are sides would ache.
He called the game,
"Hear we go"
Great Memories!
Love you guys
It blows me away to think my Gramma was born in the
1800's....I mean think of all the things that happened
since the 1800's......Abe Lincoln, civil war...Gramma was
born....World war one...Titanic....television...world
two....streets that we lived on including Heartwell,
Perkins, and so on all the way to Blackberry's
(strawberry's are good too).....and just think about all
the things that happened in between these major events.
Some of my memories of Gramma Mattie, were that she
helped Mom cook and clean (made great apple pies)....she
liked Perry Como...she also liked us kids to rub her feet
or forehead....she liked to play cards and bunco.... 25
cents a game...big spenders...When things got too crazy
(imagine how that could happen with 12 kids running
around) she would go hide in her bedroom....One time I
wanted to go with Kurt LaDuc somewhere, and Kurt didn't
have his license yet.... Gramma, talking to Mom, said I
shouldn't go.......when I protested, Gramma said "Go ask
your Father, he'll say no."
So I did, and to my utter surprise, Dad said yes! (can
you believe it?) So when I walked past Gramma on my way
out the door, I know I had a look that said "na na na na
boo boo!".....Another thing I remember when we were much
younger, we used to give our money to Gramma to hold on to
it for us...and then when we asked for it back, (usually
within 5 minutes) she wouldn't give it back....Great
memories...Great childhood...Great Family!
Grandma Stevenson
Some of the great memories I have of Grandma (Great-grandma) Mattie
(One of the first six kid's memories) is when we were living on Hartwell in
Detroit.
When she received he social security check (especially in the summer), she
would send one of us over to the Dairy Queen so that we could each have a
small cone (maybe even drenched in chocolate) while she could have a Hot
Fudge Sunday.
Another memory is, she liked to play bingo and she convinced me to come
with her, and go around and ask if anybody would like a cold drink and if they
did I would go get them the one and when I got back they would tip me.
(My first business).
When they lived on Fenmore (1946) they had a great dog named Sparkie a
Schiperkie
http://www.canadasguidetodogs.com/customergraphics/schipperke1.jpg
and when we got to their house
Sparkie would go crazy with happiness.
Almost every time we went to her house she would bake the most
delicious Apple Pie you could imagine.
I even remember Kitty Rand. Grama Matties mother (My great great grand
mother) who would let us sit on her lap and sing folk songs to us. Eg.
A frog came a cort'n he did come ahhum ahum .....
Hello Tom,
It is a great comfort to me and I'm sure all of the family
to know that you and Jeanne have been so fortunate to now
know what is to be done to heal Emilie. How wonderful!
The story you related to us about Emilie bring to mind
the time when I discovered I had a brain tumor. Aunt Nancy
has a tradition in her church. One of the parishioner cuts a
piece of cloth with the intention that the one who received it
might recieve a "Good Report". She gave me one of her piece
I see a similarity in Emilie's case.
With the love with in us all ---- behind her, may she live a long
wonderful and productive life!
Author: jis@windgifts.comEmilie's diagnosis, treatment
A bit long, but so awesome!
After one month (which has seemed like three years), the doctors at U of M
have a final diagnosis for Emilie. The final pathology reports came back
indicating a change - it is not Eosinophilic granuloma, but a bone infection.
After two more days seeing specialsts this week, the final diagnosis is
Chronic Osteomyelitis. This is more benign than a disease! We went from it
really looking like a malignancy to a disease and then finally to an infection.
It is a-typical to have a bone infection in a clavicle. The infectious disease
doctor, who has been practicing about 30 years, has never seen a bone
infection in the clavicle. He sees about 6 bone infections in patients each day
at U of M. The cultures from the biopsy did not grow any bacteria - this is
fairly common as 30-60% of bone infections grow no bacteria. Tom asked
our new Pediatric Orthopaedic doctor, who handles infections and is also a
Catholic, if there was a miraculous nature in Emilie's condition, what could
she say about it. Dr. Farley said with a smile, in this case we'd call it Chronic
Osteomyelitis. Emilie's condition is nothing definitive, yet it is something they
need to treat. Also, since she did have a bone graft, please pray this heals
properly. She'll be checked periodically throughout her treatment.
So how is Chronic Osteomyelitis treated? Emilie needs to be on oral
antibiotics for about one year. They hit it long and hard so there is no room
for a relapse. She needs to take Clindamysin 3x per day and Rifampin 2x per
day. The liquid forms are very horrible tasting - we are practicing swallowing
pills with TicTacs for the next day to see if she can manage that. It's possible
she could swallow the capsules on a teaspoon of jelly or applesauce. We also
ordered a patented cup called Oralflo, which is like a sippy cup and is
supposed to be great for anyone with difficulty swallowing pills. As many of
you with kids know, kids taking medicine can be quite an ordeal. Even
though Emilie said her collar bone hurt after surgery, she didn't want to take
the tylenol with codeine because of the taste! We pray this small piece of the
puzzle falls into place easily for her.
It is still hard to comprehend the whirlwind of events in January - sometime
we think, "What just happened? Did this ALL really happen to us?" Reflecting
over this journey, we are still in awe as God worked in all of us. We are sure
to unpack and ponder these things for quite some time. We take away from
this experience, a growth in faith and a firm confidence that God is with us,
no matter what the circumstances. We have a greater understanding of
asking people to pray and for the saints in Heaven, in asking their
intercession, even friends who have passed away recently who are close to
the Lord. To strive to give glory to God in all we do, trusting in His will that
He knows what's best for us, is more firmly engraved on our hearts. We are so
blessed to have a living example of God answering our prayers... a miracle for
us to hold in our hearts for the rest of our lives. We are thankful to all of you
for walking this journey with us. From so many people being moved to pray
for Emilie to the generosity, kindness and support you showed to our family,
we are deeply grateful. And finally, we have learned how powerful it is to
pray for people by name. Just as you all prayed for Emilie, we now, even
more, pray for people by name everyday, especially those families with
children who and sick and suffering. Emilie's own handwritten list in pink
marker is taped to her wall by her bed (a much better meaning for the term
"Emily's List.")
For a lasting thought, we leave this example of how God is with us... The day
before Emilie's surgery just two weeks ago, she had the full bone body scan.
She received a nuclear injection and had to come back for the scan three
hours later after drinking 24 ounces of water. Before the scan, which would
take about an hour, we stopped into the bathroom. As Emilie was about to
wash her hands, I almost blurted out, "Be careful! The water comes blasting
out of this faucet!" But, thankfully, somehow I didn't say anything. Emilie
turned on the faucet and the water did come blasting out. She cupped her
small hands together under the water and stopped to hold them there,
relishing the moment. As I saw Emilie's reflection in the mirror, her face
marveling at the image of her hands in the water, she said, "Look Mommy, it's
like God's love overflowing."
Thanks be to God and may He bless you all!
With love and prayers,
Tom and Jeanne
Author: sallyjlucca@aol.comThank Goodness for good Medical Science!
To Tom & Jeanne,
It such great news to hear that Emilie hasn't been diagnosed with cancer! This
news really made my day as after having read your last letter I was feeling
fearful for what was to come.
Still, from what I've read about Unifocal "Langerhans cell histiocytosis"
(eosinophilic granuloma)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Langerhans_cell_histiocytosis
it looks like it will be a bit of a struggle to completely overcome it but,
nothing like cancer thank goodness!
This story reminds me a bit of my father's (uncle James to you as I'm sure you
know ;-) own struggle with having been diagnosed years ago with a "benign"
tumor in the area of his pituitary gland. I remember being so thankful that
medical science had a solution for his condition and how doctors were able
to use a new technology at that time called a Cyberknife:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyberknife
to help eradicate the bit of the tumor that they were not able to surgically
remove.
We're so fortunate to be able to benefit from the scientific medical research
and work that countless men & women have done in learning about diseases
in the pursuit of finding remedies and cures. Yet again here is another
demonstration of this fortune.
May this turn of events be the only misfortune that comes to Emilie and
family as the years go by!
With my love,
couldn't help but think of the words to that
world to TRUST that what the Lord has for us is HIS plan...
we all want OUR own plan and when we don't get it ...we get
angry at GOD ...but we CANNOT... but I thank God for
showing us mercy in Emilie's case and Fr. John's
prayer "that it might lift the faith of the people who are
praying for Emilie..."
will hopefully have a great effect... We are so FULL OF JOY
for you guys that we can hardly contain ourselves!!!
Love to you all... and I can hardly wait for the get
Author: jamg1971@aol.comEmilie's Miracle
We are privileged to experience God's miracles right in our midst...
The past three weeks have been a whirlwind of emotion and intense wear on
our hearts. Test results and doctors indicated before the surgery that Emilie's
condition was strongly suggestive of a malignancy - Ewings sarcoma. Also,
whether benign or malignant, the clavicle would be removed because the
middle part of the bone was destroyed. This last part we did not share in the
emails - it was quite frightening to us.
Last night, anticipating this day of surgery which we knew would change our
lives dramatically, I (Jeanne) did not sleep more than a couple hours. Emilie,
fearful of the surgery, slept in our bed for comfort. I prayed constantly all
night while worrying if the surgery would have to be cancelled as Emilie
coughed incessantly half the night and it felt like she had a fever. As I prayed
and talked to God, I told Him about what I thought it would be like to hear
the results of the news of cancer I anticipated. I had a gut feeling... mother's
intuition, that it was something very serious. Emilie's eyes were very sunken
with dark circles and her stomach was bothering her for 3-4 weeks. the lump
on her clavicle seemed sizable. In my prayer, I told the Lord, "It's going to
be......" I was about to finish with a word like "traumatic, difficult, or
devastating." But instead of my finishing the sentence telling God my worries,
I heard, Someone else finish the sentence... it's going to be... "MIRACULOUS."
Miraculous! I was instantly filled with a sense of peace and calmness from
this one word I heard. I just really felt the grace of God. For the rest of the
night, Emilie's cough was quieted and her forehead was cool. God speaks to
us in ways we can understand. These things are not happenstance or our own
minds inventing something. God is real and He is in our midst. He has been
with us in such a significant way as we anticipated the surgery and
throughout this trial during the past three weeks.
We left for the hospital at about 6am. Emilie was in the OR at about 7:30-
8:00am. After a couple hours, the surgeon, Dr. Biermann, approached us with
a beaming smile saying, "I have really good news." She told us what Emilie
has is benign. We couldn't believe what we were hearing! What she has is a
curable disease - Eosinophilic granuloma, part of the histiocytosis X family of
diseases. In children her age, this disease is cured with surgery and possibly
steroid treatments. It did not appear in her full body bone scan or CT scan.
The doctor took care of everything within this surgery. She removed affected
areas and was able to do a bone graft to fill in the hole. No removal of the
clavicle!!!! No port for chemo! After surgery, they did a thorough ultrasound
of her abdomen, looking at all of her organs to make sure it did not appear
there. But even if it does, it may be treated with steroids. In recovery, the
nurses were surprised to see Emilie back so quickly and asked if this is good
news. They responded with great joy hearing the outcome.
Now at home in bed, Emilie is doing pretty well. She is having some nausea
and vomiting. Right now she's on a diet of freezey pops and juice, but has
now moved on to vanilla ice cream! She's on some pain meds and is getting a
little crabby at times (which we take as a good sign!)
So, as we are about to go to bed, more tired than we have ever been in our
lives, we are also filled with an immense gratitude for our loving Father who
chose to bless us with this miracle. We are in total awe of the MANY, MANY
people who prayed for Emilie across the country. It sort of reminds us of the
old shampoo commercial... when you're convicted of something, you'll tell
ten friends, and they'll tell ten friends, and they'll tell ten friends. So, please
be sure to tell everyone that today, God's miracle is in Emilie for all of us to
see and experience. God heard and answered our prayers.
With deep prayers of THANKSGIVING and utmost JOY,
Tom, Jeanne, Sophie, Carly, Dillon and one beautiful healed Emilie
Below is a note we would like to share from our great friend and pastor at
OLGC.
-----------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------
-------------------------------------
"And when Jesus saw their faith He said to the paralytic..."
This was the Gospel that was proclaimed this morning at Mass (Mark 2:1-
12). It's a story we're all familiar with, I know. The man is brought to Jesus by
his friends. They can't get into the house. They climb the roof and cut a hole
in it and drop the man down in front of our Lord, who then is described in
the way that I quoted at the beginning. What leapt out at me this morning as
I was praying before Mass was this line. It was the faith of the friends that led
the Lord to cure the man; not so much the faith of the man. What a gift it is
to be able to bring, like the friends of the paralytic, those who are ill to Him,
the Divine Physician, and to let Him do what He alone can do!
I was privileged to be able to anoint Emily yesterday and usually when I pray
with someone or over them I feel led to ask the Lord to give them peace, to
protect them from fear, to bring the healing that He knows is best. But
yesterday I was led to ask the Lord for a miracle, for the glory of His name
first and foremost, and for an increase in faith in the family and among those
who have been praying or who simply know her.
And the response of the crowds present to this miracle? "They all were
amazed and glorified God, saying, 'We have never seen anything like this!'"
In His love,
Fr. John
To fill you all in on Emilie...
Wednedsay we had her appt. with Dr. Biermann at Mott Children's Hospital in
Ann Arbor. We are in good hands. Directly after the appt. yesterday, Emilie had
a CT scan. Thursday was another long day - a four hour bone scan. Today
Friday 1/16 at 7:30am is her surgery/biopsy. It should be about three hours. If
it is malignant, they will put a port in for chemo during this same surgery. She
will probably stay overnight.
Emilie is pretty upbeat - she received a prize after each test from the hospital
staff. She even watched High School Musical during her bone scan. Lots of
eating out is fun for her too.
Emilie and Dillon know what is going on now. We'll all know tomorrow what the
diagnosis is and will be sure to share it with you.
We are praying for healing for our beautiful seven-year-old Emilie and for
guidance for her doctors. Feel free to share this and pray for her by name at
school or church. We don't know what the road ahead of us will be like, but we
know that God is with us.
Love,
Today we met with the oncologist (Jeanne, Emilie and I). We really liked him
and his nurse. They were so wonderful with Emilie, and with us. He went over
her MRI, x-rays, and took more x-rays and lab work. It is still a worrisome
case and we/they don't yet know all we need to know. There are more steps
that need to happen now, a CT scan, full body bone scan and a biopsy. These
will begin possibly as soon as tomorrow (CT scan) and over the course of the
next week or so. Time is not a threat, thank God, so no worries there. Wish
we had more, but this is not a "text book" case, maybe that is a good thing.
What is good now is that the ball is rolling and with it a sense of peace too.
The prayers are being felt so powerfully - the graces are so amazing - Thank
you all. Keep it up.
Emilie is very chipper, and knows that they are trying to "fix" her collar bone,
which in truth is all we really know too. That is enough for her right now. She
was very comfortable with the doctor. When he spoke, it was to her, the
medical history he took from her, with our assist. He knelt on the floor so he
could be eye to eye with her and she thought he was funny too. Jeanne and I
are comfortable that we are in good hands, and our grateful for the excellent
recommendations.
We'll keep you all in the loop as timely as we can.
Thanks for everything! The blessing of family is such a great gift.
Tom,
Good to hear that Emilie did well for her MRI! That's certainly a big first step
in the right direction to understanding what's going on. As I say in the below
video, may she get well soon!
Get the Adobe Flash Player or enable Javascript / Flash to see this player.Click here to download this video file (or right click and select "save as").
On to this video:
Now I can relate to those snowy photos everyone's been sharing here! :-)
It's snowing here quite a bit (in fact it's the most I have seen since I began
living here in 2000). In the above video I mention the date as January 4th but
in fact I just recorded it so the recording date is actually January 5th.
I did some more work on the Circle Letter Software and now it is possible to
add Windows Media Video files (and soon Windows Audio - wma).
In order for WMV files to play on the Circle Letter folks may need to install
Microsoft's Silveright plugin from the following address:
http://silverlight.net/
There is a plugin for most computer operating systems (including one for
Intel based Macintoshes). Alternatively folks can just opt to download the
video and play it on their computers with whatever software will play Window
Media files on their system.
For Macintosh users the Quicktime plugin/component "Flip4Mac" available
here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx
Will allow Quicktime to play Windows Media files (even in browsers).
As of its current version the Silverlight plugin plays these file types:
WMV1: Windows Media Video 7
WMV2: Windows Media Video 8
WMV3: Windows Media Video 9
WMVA: Windows Media Video Advanced Profile, non-VC-1
WMVC1: Windows Media Video Advanced Profile, VC-1
WMA 7: Windows Media Audio 7
WMA 8: Windows Media Audio 8
WMA 9: Windows Media Audio 9
MP3: ISO/MPEG Layer-3
So that should open up the sharing possibilities quite a bit!
Ok everyone, sending my love to you all!
Author: jamg1971@aol.comHappy New Year's 2009! Video Greeting
First before I go any further I just want to send my words of support to Tom &
Jeanne and family's Emilie. May the love and support Emilie has from our
family combine with the medical reasoning and knowledge that doctors
working with her have at their disposal to see that she gets well soon and
feels as good as new in short order! I hope that whatever is found to be the
cause will be relatively simple to overcome!
With that said the timing of my following New Year's greeting feels a bit odd
but please just know that I had this all prepared before getting this news
about Emilie. Please bear with me if this doesn't work out right away as this
message will be the first live attempt to make this video system work!
Get the Adobe Flash Player or enable Javascript / Flash to see this player.Click here to download this video file (or right click and select "save as").
For folks wanting to add a video to the circle letter there are a few technical
requirements. The video must be saved in MP4 (or Flash Video - FLV- ask me
about this) format with the following requirements:
The video codec has got to be H.264 and the audio codec has got to be either
MP3 or AAC.
I realize that these technical limitations are liable to put a bit of a crimper on
folks working out how to add their videos but with a little patience and help
from myself I'm sure that together we can overcome these.
So with these words I send everyone my love and tender thoughts at the
dawning of this new year 2009!
Love,
Author: netscott+circleletter@gmail.comPrayers for Emilie today
Tonight Emilie has an MRI, we're asking for your prayers that she can be still for
the 45 minutes it will take for the test, a lot to ask for a 7 year old!
Here is a little background as to why. We took her into the doctor Monday
because she has been complaining that her right clavicle has been hurting. It is
swollen. We have been worried too - she has had dark circles under eyes for a
few weeks, at least. We took her to the doctor - an x-ray showed a
growth/abnormalities. She has an MRI scheduled for this Friday at
7:15pm. Please pray she can make it through the MRI without being
sedated (if this is the case, the test needs to be rescheduled.) We are praying
that is is only a cyst, but need the MRI to tell the Drs what is going on there.
Through the intercession of St. Peregrine, St. Therese (she has a
special devotion to her) and St. Margaret Mary (her patron saint -
middle name), may the Lord bring healing.
With grateful hearts,
Tommy and Jeanne
Author: jIs@windgifts.comChristmas
Did you know that Christmas is actually celebrated in the church as an
octave? Yes, Christmas, as well as Easter, is celebrated as an octave. It is
actually an 8 day, day!
Here is a little history.
Why celebrate for eight days? The practice actually is as ancient as the Old
Testament, as old as approx. 1300 BC. The Hebrew people observed many of
their feasts for a period of eight days. The “Feast of Tabernacles” and the
“Dedication of the Temple” are two of the more notable. Later, the Roman
Emperor Constantine (330 AD) continued the tradition by celebrating the
dedication of basilicas in the Christian World for the same period of eight
days. Today we celebrate two feasts with Octaves: Easter (being the more
prominent) and Christmas.
Again, so why celebrate for eight days? Life in the ancient world was so
hectic and filled with pressure and families had grown apart and were being
swept up in the older pagan traditions, the Church granted a period of eight
days in order to contemplate the mysteries experienced in the Church’s
liturgy. Comparatively speaking, we obviously need the Octave even more
than the Christians of the ancient world! The ancient world did not have
television, shopping malls, computers, cell phones, fast food, automobiles,
magazines and newspapers… if the Ancients were easily distracted, what has
become of us!? We need to enjoy this time! If you need, take off work, visit
family, feast, attend Mass or Church services, pray, praise God, visit the poor,
celebrate charity, and most of all be humbled before the Mystery: The Word
of God has become flesh - fully human and fully divine!
I learned this several years ago and wanted to share some of this cool church
history with the class!
Love you all, Merry Christmas; Tommy, Jeanne, Sophie, Carly Dillon and Emilie
of the mountain with my sweet nice camera. It was pouring
really hard on the way up there and the higher we got, the
more the rain turned to ice. It rained for half of the time
up there, then when we reached the peak, it started snowing
huge flakes. It was pretty gorgeous. Well, with all that
rain and snow, the roads became icy and cause massive backup
on the road down. We had to wait in a line of cars for at
least 3 hours just to get 4 miles down the mountain. It was
cool up there. cold. Freezing cold. Haha.
So. I read about something of doing a Instant mesage chat
with everyone? I do it all the time! Ask me if you need some
help starting it up ok John?
I'll hopefully get some new pictures up soon of all what
i've been doing this past month. If not, Just check my
flickr. www.flickr.com/photos/picsfromjos
Anyways. Hoping all of you had a great Christmas, Lovemas
day or what ever you celebrate, and hope that we have
another good year in 09.
Author: josephsfauxtaug@aim.comYes indeed, well done Aunt Mary! :-)
You were so right about mentioning that the birth of Jesus is simply observed
on the 25th of December.
The following section of the Encarta article on Christmas that covers the
origins of Christmas is quite enlightening:
http://encarta.msn.com/text_761556859___2/Christmas.html
Apparently if Roman traditions had been held we'd be celebrating "Saturnalia"
and honoring another god, "Saturn" the god of agriculture or else original
Pagan festivals of the Winter of Solstice. :-)
This article by Wade Cox of a Woden, Australia organization referring to itself
as "Christian Churches of God" seems to be a bit of a Christian protest both
against the celebrations of Christmas and Easter on the dates now observed
in the west:
http://www.ccg.org/english/s/p235.html
With all of the religious strife in the world I just wanted to put out the notion
that love really should be celebrated because no matter one's belief (Christian, Islam,
Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. and yes even atheism) everyone seems to
agree on the tenets of love.
And I too mean no disrespect and simply wanted to share an idea that is
based on what I believe to be a universal truth ("love") across all belief
systems.
So with that I send you my heartfelt expression of love!
Love,
-Scott
Author: njoynjohn@gmail.comHappy Birthday Jesus!!!
Well... we just got home from an AMAZING program at our
church tonight... the last of SEVEN services and it has
been an exhausting run but worth ALL THE EFFORT... WE
ROCKED THE HOUSE!!!! Alot of very talented people from
technicians to lighting crews to producers, directors,
actors, singers, etc... it was FABULOUS!!! And Chris (our
Pastor)is just one gifted man...so humble, so normal
and "cool" yet right on the money with his uncompromised
message sbout forgiveness and redemption and "identity
theft"... well ... He weaved it all together so perfectly
you would've had to have been there but ...hey... if you
want to check it out for yourself...
just click onto orchardgrove.org in a day or so
and the message will be there... there were over 1000
people at each of the services... If I can get copies of
the service on DVD I will make copies and send it to anyone
who wants to see it.
So.... until I hear from any of you let me be the first to
say HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JESUS CHRIST ( after all~ that's what
we're really celebrating today DEC 25th... A CELEBRATION TO
REMEMBER JESUS CHRIST'S DAY OF ARRIVAL INTO THIS
PLANET...knowing this wasn't the "actual day" of HIS birth
but a "rememberence") and you are SO RIGHT, SCOTT...it's
ALL ABOUT LOVE and Jesus Christ's LOVE for us is
unparallelled ( forgive my misspelling~ there's no
spellcheck on this site)...so wherever you all are... hope
that your individual "birthday" parties are the most joyous
ever....
Call me old fashioned ... but I still like to call it by
what it is... CHRISTMAS :) and I say that in the most
sincere,respectful way I can...so don't get the wrong
idea :)
I mean~just like when THE 4th of July gets here we'll
celebrate that day for what it represents too... And the
countries that didn't declare their independence on that
day won't be celebrating...because they have no reason
to... it's all about REPRESENTATION for the people it means
something to...
I love you ALL more than you could EVER imagine!!!
Sooooo.... Have yourselves a Merry little
Christmas ...now...
Greetings from snowy Seattle! We have experienced an absolutely unprecedented amount of cold and
snow here over the past two weeks. The city (and the entire region, actually) has come to a complete
standstill. I'm not certain what the total snowfall accumulation is to date, but I would estimate
something like 1.5 - 2 feet. To give you a sense of how rare this is, our city of 600,000 owns only
27 snowplows! Those plows are equipped with rubber-covered blades, so as not to damage the street
surfaces, manhole covers, etc,; and the city does not use salt due to the potentially negative
ecological impacts to Puget Sound. The result is that just about every non-arterial street in
Seattle is covered with an impenetrable layer of ice about 4-6" thick. Did I mention that our fair
city is also extremely hilly? If you've never been here, think San Francisco, but with more hills
that aren't quite as high. School was canceled all last week, and very few people were able to get
to work. So, we played in the snow! We built snowmen, went sledding, and even went snowboarding down
our own street! I put a video of Amy riding down our street on YouTube,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gxz7LmMmas I took a few runs too, but wanted something a bit
steeper. I hiked up the next street to the north, to nearly the top of our hill, and some friendly
neighbors who were out sledding offered to spot me when I crossed 3rd Ave NW (a major arterial, but
for reasons explained above, nearly devoid of traffic). I managed to ride all the way down NW 48th
St from Market to 6th Ave NW! It was exhilarating, and probably a once-in-a-lifetime experience. So
naturally I immediately hiked back up the hill and did it again! :)
We are making the best of things, and the boys have loved every minute of this rare meteorological
treat.
I hope everyone out there is doing great, and wish you a wonderful non-denominational Winter Holiday. :)
Love,
Matt, Amy, Liam and Lochlan
Author: netscott+circleletter@gmail.comA Favorite Christmas Story for 2008
Hello family,
I was telling brother Gerry this story and he asked me to
share it with all of you via the circle letter.
As many of you know, Santa is quite busy at this time of
year, so here in Salisbury Tom helps him out occasionally
by making some Santa visits for him. Kathy and Jenny are
his helpers. They have beautiful red velvet suits trimmed
with white fur, etc. They are all quite impressive
together. Of course, the little children are delighted to
see him...but to see adults loving Santa really melts your
heart !
The story starts with our Kathy...she heard of a fund
raiser from our Lower Shore Enterprises. It is a place
for our local people with physical or mental
disabilities / challenges, where they can work, be trained
to do simple jobs and feel productive.
They were making gift baskets for Christmas: teas, hot
chocolate packets, local caramel corn, etc. She bought a
few of them without even seeing them just to support their
cause. When she went to pick them up, she was amazed at
how beautiful they were. The people were so grateful to
her, hugging her saying "thank you Kathy, thank you Kathy,
etc." When she got home, she decided to order several more
baskets for gifts.
The next day, Santa made a visit to Lilly's (Danny's 2
year old daughter) nursery school. When they left, they
thought that while they were so dressed up...they would
drop by Lower Shore Enterprises for a surprise visit and
to order the extra baskets.
Here were the challenged people working hard, all doing
their various jobs. When Santa came in , they were Sooo
happy to see him ! Santa and the helpers were working the
room, visiting with all the people, getting and giving
hugs and candy canes. Remember, these are all ADULTS
with disabilities. One of the women was singing
"you'd better watch out, you'd better not cry...."
all the words to Santa Claus is coming to town...she sang
the whole song twice.
What Tom didn't know until he got out to the car was that
the director had told Kathy that THAT WOMAN HAS NOT SPOKEN
MORE THAN TWO WORDS A WEEK SINCE SHE HAS BEEN THERE !!!
But somehow, seeing Santa, brought something out in her
and she was singing !
Let's always remember to count our blessings.
Merry Christmas,
Esther
Hello family,
I just wanted to tell you that I had a wonderful time at
the Annual Stevenson Christmas Gathering yesterday........
EVEN THOUGH I WASN'T THERE !!!!
I had called our Michael to see if the gathering was even
taking place due to the nasty Michigan weather. When I
called him...he was already at the gathering. Yes !!!!!
I LOVE family get togethers.
He mentioned to me that there was a raffle going on for
some of Mary Garlak's art. Of course, I wanted in. So my
family bought me some raffle tickets....(for which I wlll
repay them post haste !).......and guess what ????
Esther won the most coveted prize of the day!!!!! A
driftwood Santa that Mary did her magic on.
Lucky me....sorry about your luck to the rest of you !
Plus, I won two more other prizes.
Michael will be delivering them to us when his
family comes to Maryland to visit us two days after
Christmas.
Merry Christmas to all....I truly enjoyed (almost) being
with you all !
Author: njoynjohn@gmail.comTriple Blessings!
Say it with me- God is Great! This past week has been
triply blessed for Jeff and I. We are in awe of God's
greatness and excited to share our experiences with you.
First off, Jeff and I are expecting a little blessing from
above! Yes, we are finally pregnant again. I am only about
6 weeks along, but so far everything is going perfectly.
Mom is praying for twins and interestingly enough it has
been the topic of conversational questioning for the past
three days- little comments like wouldn't it be great if
you had twins or are you in line for twins have been asked
quite often. Aunt Mary, I love the way you found out- :)
Our first ultrasound is on December 16th- that way
everything should be clear and developing well enough to
see by then. Thanks to all who have been keeping us in
your prayers- I know you will continue to do so and we will
keep you in ours as well. Second- My art exhibit this past
weekend went extremely well. I sold three paintings and
have others on hold. Enough to cover my booth fees and
perhaps next months mortgage. It was more than I
expected. The clientele were wonderful people along with
the planners and other venders. I believe my paintings
went to individuals who truly enjoyed the pieces. Thank
you so much for attending- to those of you who were able to
come out for the event. It means so much to have your
support. Third- I just found out this morning that I have
been accepted for the CoReutter-Menagerie Gallery in South
Lyon which will be holding its opening night soon. I will
be one of their many featured artists. I am very excited,
especially since I know how difficult it can be to get into
a gallery. Opening date and time have not yet been
posted. I will pass along the information once I know and
you can always check in at my website to see if any new
developments have taken place. www.shelleystevenson.com
All of these blessings could not have been possible without
your prayers and belief in God's Glory. Love to all.
