JOHN & JOY THANKS FOR ASKING
Dear John, Joy and all,
Thanks for asking about the fire danger to us.
You all must be praying for us as our home and wind chime business have
not been endangered. We have been having the worst smoke in the air for
days that I've ever seen. Some people are really suffering and staying indoors
all the time.
Even that is mostly over though. There are still many fires going on in
California. In Big Sur where we have sold to the Nepenthe for many years is
hurting because no traffic can go in or out.
Star and Jenifer are celebrating ten years of marriage in Italy and France. Star
and Jerry are both on different bicycle teams so Star, Jenifer and Scott will be
in Paris for the finale of the Tour de France which will be a big thrill
especially for Star.
Zip, Lizzie, their daughters Sophie and Flora just got back from Italy and
Spain and had a great time. Lizzie said the girls never complained even
though they did a lot of walking. Zip sold 1/3 of his business to an Italian
businessman.
Jerry and Cindy went camping and fishing at the bottom of the Sierras and
missed the fires luckily. I haven't heard yet who caught the biggest fish.
Their son, Nickolaus, went to Japan and Thailand with two of his friends and
stayed in hostels. He kept a blog with plenty of photos of their many
adventures.
James is almost over his double hernia surgery he had on June 25th. He had a
rough recovery and still tires easily but he is so much better. He's lost a lot of
weight and now is working on putting 10 lbs. back.
I fell off an old rickety wood ladder and the ladder fell on me cracking my ribs
on June 10th. I was so stupid to use that ladder especially outside but I
learned my lesson. So it was like a recovery hospital around our home for a
few weeks but things are almost back to normal. Thanks for all your prayers
it really helped both of us even though you probably didn't know of our
troubles at the time.
Hope everyone is having a great summer and wish we were there for Tony
and Sally's Independence Day Celebration on the lake. Sounds like so much
fun.
T.J., Great to hear about you and yours on the circle letter. Keep it up!
Joseph, It is wonderful to see your great photos and your contributions to the
circle letter so often.
Scott, I hope you know how wonderful you are for making this family circle
letter so cool for us.
Love, Suzanne and/or Mom

Author: LADYWITHART@GMAIL.comgood to hear the news!!
Hey Suzanne~
What a great letter! So much news to become aware of... I
have to be honest... I didn't know that James had the
surgery... The last I heard... they (the drs.)
couldn't do the surgery and were going to put it off for
awhile... well... I am REALLY glad to hear of the healing
that is going on in both of you and will CONTINUE to keep
you in our prayers...
Congrats to all the kids and their adventures in the
different foreign lands... what a thrill! Good luck to the
cyclist too!
It is hard to believe that Jen & Star have already been
married TEN years!!!WOW!!! Congrats to them too!
Also very happy to hear the fires have missed all those we
love! It is so scary~
We are plugging away at the day to day living ... having a
few challenges with the new house but
still very happy to be here and enjoying a place where we
can actually have company over...Sarah and Johnny just
finished baby Johnny's room and now we are on to working
on the walls in the dining room... it's a "little by
little" venture but we're plugging away at it... all the
grandbabes are getting so big... baby Johnny was 1 month
old on July 12th... man it's flying by! Lucy is so
funny...she LOVES to dance and she really has the "groove"
even as young as she is!!! Conner James is her idol ...he
makes her laugh all the time and he too is very
musical...he wants to be a drummer when he gets "big"...
the legacy continues :)
Well~ it is 11:30 and I am going to bed so goodnight to
you all and I will send photos next time~
God bless you all~
I love you

Yup. Had to. This was my 4th cloneing shot. Its so fun. I've learned a lot in photoshop and
techniques with my camera on my own and its getting addicting.
So, The 3 pictures that I added to the Orange County fair photography contest came back as 2 1st
place prizes and a 3rd place for the third photo. Soo glad. But im sorta bummed on how my pictures
were judged. I was judged with the childrens catagory instead of the young adult catagory. Oh well..
Theres always next year. Im soo pumped!
Hopefully I'll get my pc fixed so I can get my pictures uploaded smoother.
Always, You are encouraged to see the other shots that I didnt add to this post on my flickr at

so well suited for me. He has been married before and has 4
beautiful daughters. (ages 13, 15,17, and 20).
We are getting married next July 11th 2009. (7/11/9)
It would be great if my aunt's uncle's and cousins might be

you might be able to attend.

the 60's and 70's, it's really a lot of fun to hear
this...they use actual soundbites and studio produced
material that will make you think your really listening to
CKLW.. they even play commercials from some of the places

Hi Everyone,
I was having a hard time trying to get these photo's on
the circle, so when they finally went through, I didn't
add any message....The first picture doesn't need any
explaining...it was taken before the artwork was added to
the ceiling...the second photo was of the Montrose, a ship
that sank under the Ambasador bridge...Dad took our boat
down to the river to get a close look...I was one of the
lucky ones that got to go (I can't remember who else
went) anyways, if you look at the front
of the ship (left side of photo) you will see a small boat
pulled up close....wouldn't it be something if that was
us...We had the top up....hmmm
once again, much love

Hi everyone, As I'm sitting here listening to the Bobby

Jane) I was wondering...Did Bobby and Henry have an act
for a long time? Or did they just get together for a
short time and make this album...How old was Bobby when he
died? 40 something? how old would he be today?....It's
amazing how the 3 brothers all had such different styles,
and yet were all so good!! Is this a Great Family or

Brother John,
As I read your letter I had a dejavu moment...
If memory serves me correctly, Uncle Bobby died on
May 23, 1966. I think that he was 43.
The reason I have that memory is because that day was
Tom's birthday and we lived in Detroit on Snowden.
We were pouring a cement patio in our back yard and we
had just carved the date......May 23, 1966 in the cement
when we got the call that Uncle Bobby had died.
Siblings: am I right on this one ???
Ever so lovingly,

Hello dear family:
Esther, you are right about Uncle Bob; he was 43 years old
and I remember the phone call from dad very well. Now that
I am older I think about what a tragedy it was and how sad
for Sally, gramma, and his siblings that he lost his life at
such a young age. He was a musical genius!
In the family now, Steven Hull is fighting for his life. At
41 his life is in God's hands. The bible says He knows the
number of days we have before we have one of them. Mary
Anne (Boudreau) Uetz passed away last Sunday. Her funeral
was yesterday. What a remarkable woman she was!! A huge
church, St. Alphonsus, was packed with mourners. She was 75.
Also, I wanted to say to you, Esther, that you are also
right about the base player. I knew it was John somebody.
Well, I love all of you so much. I pray everyone is doing
well regardless of storms we all go through.

Author: tstevens@visteon.comHere's the scoop
Just wanted to send a big thank you out to everyone who has
been keeping Jeff and I in their prayers. Jeff has just
received a teaching position through waterford schools in
Michigan. He will be at Adams and Waterford Village for
Physical Education and Coaching at Pierce and a little at
Kettering for Football, Wrestling and Track. He is very
excited to be able to continue his coaching, it was a major
concern for him. He has put 10 years into the program and
has developed very close ties with the staff, parents and
kids. During this time I have been asked to be a guest
instructor for modern messages dance studio. They are a
Christian oriented facility who understand that my health
needs to be put first. They are extremely close to home
and connected through family and friends who knew how much
I missed dancing. So I will begin a once a week six week
ballroom dance class there starting in October. If all
goes well I will continue working through them- All depends
on how it takes a toll on my health. I have also had a few
commisions through the Detroit Institute of Arts Scarab
Club. One has led me to a woman who is now interested in
having me create artwork for her entire home. It should be
exciting. I also have artwork waiting for acceptance into
Views and Visions through the Milford VFAA and in Voices
through the Detroit Institute of Arts-Scarab Club. Keep me
in your prayers. By the way, it's been a while since I've
heard anything from Joseph on here. I wonder where you've
been hiding and what you are up to. Perhaps school has
taken up your time. Please keep me posted on your news and
what is going on with your photography. Don't forget to
continue to make time for it. God Bless.

This is my latest painting which I just finished yesterday. The interesting thing is that it has
an unusual story to go with it. I was excited to share it with Jeff and had him view it when he
got home. He was inspired by it and immediately began to see other images within the painting. He
then said do you see the face. I hadn't before, but once he said it I immediately did. In the
bottom right hand corner and to the left of my signature is an image that remarkably resembles my
uncle who past a year ago from cancer. Christianity and faith was extremely important to him and
he had begun painting near the end of his life. It is a face on view but the right side of his
face fades away. Within his image is a side profile of Christ looking to the left. It immediately
gave me chills and yet a since of peace and calm. Almost as if I had been watched through a window
while painting. Atleast that is my interpretation. I would love to have all of you see it as
well. So take it as you may and let me know how it inspires you. Enjoy!

What struck me is the image in the center which so

that in the center of the Eucharist I see an image of an

Hello Everyone,
I know it has been way to long since my last entry. I

the wonderful ladies in our family of an event that my mom
and I had the privilage to attend this year. It is called
the "Girlfriends Matter Cruise" Madison's soon to be step
mom (Meghan Williams) and her mom Terry decided that
girlfriends/family mean so much to all of us why not
create a trip where everyone can get together and share in
such great friendships. It was a 2 night 3 day cruise to
Ensenada Mexico (similar to the one some of you went on
from Canada down to L.A.)There ended up being a total of
105 ladies spread across the U.S. We can only hope more
can attend next year. Next year Sep 30-Oct 4
The "Girlfriend Matter Cruise" will be traveling from San
Diego down to Cabo San Lucas,Mexico on Royal Carribean.
The total amount varies on the type of room selected.
$349-$549. A $100 deposit is required by Oct 15, 2008
which goes toward the total amount. A passport is
required for the trip. Of course I would love to see all
of you. Please email me directly and I will forward you
links to the travel agent and pictures of the ship. If
this one does not work for us, I recommend we start our
own. I love you all.

I wanted to let those of you who might care, that I found
this old reel to reel tape that I thought was lost...This
tape has some pretty amazing songs on it....you won't
believe the high notes that Dad has absolutely no problem
with...or how about brother James singing "On this day oh
beautiful Mother" and doing a duet with Dad "Ave
Maria"... This is also the one with Dad, James, Bill, and
perhaps Tom singing "Those Wedding Bells are breaking up
that old gang of mine" Wait till you here their harmony!
Also, there is a great jazz tune done by James, Tom, and
Bill (I think)...I don't remember Dad being into
jazz....Anyways, I bought a CD recorder that can record
right off a tape recorder or a record player or just about
anything that will connect to my amplifier....Each CD
records 80 minutes, so I will find 80 minutes of some of
the best memories most of you will enjoy very much...It
may take a couple weeks to finish it (I've got about 30
minutes already done)...when I finish, I will send a copy
to each of you.. (brothers and sisters)

Hey John,
Boy, mentioning that tape brings back a flood of memories.
I was there in the living room that night watching and
listening as they were recording all of those songs. If I
remember correctly, they were rehearsing for someone's
wedding where they were going to do all these numbers. I
can't wait to hear them again.
By the way, what kind of recorder did you buy and where did
you get it? I'd like to do the same thing with a lot of the
old reel to reel tapes that I have.
I think you are becoming the unofficial family archivist
with all the old pictures you have posted that bring back
such wonderful memories and help the younger family

Hi everyone,
Wow !! First let me say how wonderful Steven's funeral
was.
What joy, laughter, tears, friends, and memories there were.
Janie, Jim, Sally, Jeff, Gary and Cassandra did a great job.
It's only sad we couldn't all be together. Ever since dad
died I now know the importance of this tradition...a card,
a call, a meal, a visit. It means so much. Thank God
for all the love in this family. It was a real
celebration !!
James, nice to talking to you the other night, I'm
sure you were asking for little Sally to write a letter on
the web but I couldn't resist. Today is Friday, September
12th and Sunday, the 14th, I am traveling to LA to spend 8
days with my beutiful daughter-in-law Rachel and my groovy
grandson, Mr. Liam Gunn !! Our plans are to drive to Las
Vegas Thursday the 18th, hook up with Teege (on tour) for
one night, and then we all go to Phoenix for 2 nights.
Funny, one of the main things I remeber mom saying to me
about who NOT to marry was "a musician". Hummmmmm...I
wonder why? I never did get to give Rachel that schpell.
(God love 'er!!)
Any way, I pray we get to see Bill and his gang (even
though it's soooo short a time) I'll call you Sharon, and
then the Arizona gang after that. Bob, I've already talk
to you about this. We have a condo the first 2 nights in
AZ and then I'm your house guest Sunday night the 21st
(hoping for a ride to the airport on Monday the 22nd).
Thanks.
I love you all, Sally

Sally~
How true!!! now that we are all older and life is going by so much faster... the importance of
showing our love to one another is SO IMPORTANT!!! So I want to say... I love you ALL so much and
can't wait to be together again...REAL SOON!!! 2009????
I want to tell you guys about the FABULOUS reunion we had last week with John's two kids from his
first marriage (John and Elizabeth-we call her Buffy) that we had not seen in over 18 years!!! and
together at the same time~ it has been since 1971!!!! OH MY!!! It was wonderful... I am sure I
wrote about these kids before and how we had been in touch with Buffy ever since her Mother died 3
years ago..by e-mail only...
well~ she lives in California and is an actress and she finally got some time to come back to MICH.
for a visit~ so we arranged for all of us to get together and it couldn't have gone more
perfectly!!! It's been 20 years for the son and 18 years for the daughter~
So here are some pictures that we took of our evening... I love you all~ ENJOY!!!

I have just been hired in as an independent dancer through
the Modern Messages Dance Studio. They are a christian
based dance studio who have asked me to teach adult
ballroom dance lessons. I know that many iof you have
asked me in the past how they could learn without having to
pay such a hefty price and now is your chance. I have been
allowed to create a six week program for $180.00 per couple
that will concentrate on fox trot, swing and rumba.
Normally lessons cost from $70 to $125 per lesson(that's
outrageous)! I want people to enjoy their lessons, not
think about how much they are spending the entire time.
Classes begin on October 10th and will be held every friday
from 7pm -8pm. To sign up for classes you can contact
modern messages dance studio located at 2336 E. Highland
Rd. Highland, MI at 248-889-2499. Looking forward to
seeing some familiar faces!

The second to the last time I saw Steven Hull he
was at Starbucks in Waterford, and my

was with us too, I'm pretty sure) He was
all dressed up and said he was going to work. (He passed

he was thin and handsome. But it is

THANK YOU FOR ALL THE BIRTHDAY WISHES! I can't believe I am 68 now and
James 69. How did this happen? Remember the "don't trust anyone over 30"
slogan in the sixties? Well, we are twice that and then some already. We both feel
good and glad to be alive except for the election.
Thanks John and everyone for the great photos. It is wonderful to see everyone's
kids when they were little.
I love the photo of Uncle Duke and Mom. He was so handsome like all the
Stevensons' and Roachs.
Nick Roach [son of Jerry our son] is off to college at San Loius Obispo University
for two years. We are so proud of him and his mom and dad.
I hope we have a family reunion around Beth's wedding as none of our family
could make a second trip.
Hope every one is enjoying this beautiful fall, we are.

A man is walking home alone one foggy Halloween night,
when behind him he hears:
BUMP...
BUMP...
BUMP...
Walking faster, he looks back, and through the fog he
makes out the image of an upright casket banging it's way
down the middle of the street towards him.
BUMP...
BUMP...
BUMP...
Terrified, the man begins to run towards his home, the
casket bouncing quickly behind him.
FASTER...
FASTER...
BUMP...
BUMP...
BUMP...
He runs up to his door, fumbles with his keys, opens the
door, rushes in, slams and locks the door behind him.
However, the casket crashes through the door, with the lid
of the casket clapping..
clappity-BUMP
clappity-BUMP
clappity-BUMP
On his heels, the terrified man runs..
Rushing upstairs to the bathroom, he locks himself in. His
heart is pounding, his head is reeling, his breath is
coming in sobbing gasps!!
With a loud CRASH, the casket breaks down the the door...
Bumping and clapping towards him...
The man screams and reaches for something, anything, but
all he can find is a bottle of cough syrup! Desperate, he
throws the cough syrup at the casket...
and...
Are you ready for this!!!
The coffin stops....

actually, this is just a little "contribution" to say Hello to you all. to wish Scott a happy belated birthday. (may we all take after my

Joseph, you're amazing. what an eye you've developed. and a pretty adept grasp of the camera too. I can't ever get enough of
everyone's old photos. love the ones form '76. ah, what a year...
as well, I thought you all would like to know I've released my 5th full-length studio album. (yeah, been at it for over 10 years

give y'all the heads up on the latest. it's called Come Around Again and it's now available on iTunes, at CDBaby.com and through

Author: jamg1971@aol.comSneak Preview
Hi Everyone!
I wanted to let you know that I finally finished the
first Stevenson Family CD...now all I have to do is make
11 copies and send them off...if I don't procrastinate,
I'll have them out soon...however I love to procrastinate,
so I thought I would tell you what's on the CD ..It starts
off with Dad and Bill and James with "Those Wedding Bells"
next, Dad sings "When the deep purple falls"..then he
sings "That September in the rain".. "I married an Angel"
and "Everything I possess"...next, James sings "On this
Day" and then James and Dad sing "AVE Maria"...next there
is some misc. talking and then a jazz tune with Bill,
James and Tom....next is some music by Dad and James..
(didn't know the title)..followed by the most amazing
version of "Kyrie" you've ever heard by PBS adult
choir...Remember when we all (well most of us) went on TV
and sang those 2 songs "Sing, sing a song" and "Love is
what we came here for...those are next....I recorded a
song with Mary and John called "Round the Bend" and when
Billy heard it, he wanted to add piano to it, so we doubed
it in....the piano is not exactly in tune with their
guitar, but it still sounds very cool...next is the Las
Vegas phone call with Mom, Dad, Gramma Mattie, Uncle
Bobby, Aunt Sally, Aunt Fred, brother James, brother Bill,
brother Tom, and a very cute sounding young boy....."Your
the Angel I Married" is next followed by "On Our Silver
Anniversary"..I bet you won't get through this on without
choking up or downright sobbing.....Then we have a 15 or
16 year old Nancy singing "When Sunny gets Blue" and Mom
sings "Gone with the Wind" now there is a smidgen of Nancy
talking where you can really tell how young she was (how
cool she was also) not to say that you are not cool now
Nancy...now we have Nancy and Billy and Mom singing "Our
love is here to stay" followed by what I think is Aunt
Sally singing "Our love is here to stay" also...and I
think it's Uncle Danny playing piano, or maybe Uncle
Bobby....then we have 2 people playing piano "When the
Saints go marching in" maybe some of you might know who
was playing...I think it's Uncle Danny and Dad...finally,
I put part of a song that I recorded of Mary and John
when Colin was a little baby, called "Forcasting Rain"
listen for Cole to cough in the very beginning....Mary, I
will send you guys the long version on my next M and J
oldies CD....
Hopefully I will get this out soon
(maybe by next week)
I love you All!!
with Joy

I can't wait until our parents get these CDs so we can get
our copies from them! What a blast (not to mention hours
of love labor) to get this done. It will be awesome.
I have a cassette recording Grandpa and Gramma sent me
when I graduated highschool in 1979, with Grandpa singing
2 songs, one is "you wil never pass this way again", the
second I can't remember right now, and Gramma singing
"little man you've had a busy day".
They are awewsome. If you want a copy to put on the "next

Thanks for doing this! Love, Tommy

Author: stevensonfineart@yahoo.comJAMES INTERVIEWED ABOUT N.Y. LOFT
Hello Everyone,
James was interviewed last wednesday about the loft in New York City he and
Sandy had above W. Eugene Smith, the famous Life magazine photographer.
James and Sandy had very many jam sessions there with famous and unfamous
jazz musicians.
While working on a book about W.Eugene Smith the curator of the Tuson,
Arizona University exhibit, found many boxes of tapes made unbeknownst to
James or Sandy of all jam sessions and conversations in the hall and by the
piano.
When the curator, Sam Stephenson of Duke University, found the tapes and
listened to them he tried to contact James and he had no luck. Thanks to Tommy
who was looking online for info about Dad Stevenson he found this inquiry
about James and the loft. He told James and James contacted Sam Stephenson.
So an interview was done and will be broadcast on National Broadcasting out of
New York City.
Sam and his assistant, Dan, having been working on this project for a few years
and have raised over a million dollars to keep the project going at Duke
University, North Carolina.
If any of you are interested in W. Eugene Smith there is plenty of info on the
internet.

fell and broke his hip...they were going to do surgery,
but he was just too weak for it...Please keep them in your

Author: starstevenson@hotmail.comGOD BLESS AMERICA
Hello to my dear family:
First of all I want to express our condolences to Nancy and
Dan on the passing of Mr. Reis. He was blessed with a long
and healthy life. It's the belief of all Christians that we
will one day see our loved ones again. What an amazing thought!
I also wanted to say God bless America at this most
important time of electing our next president. We all know
the candidate of our choice but it's in God's hands
ultimately and we can rest in the proverb 21:1 which says
"The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord; like rivers of
water He turns it wherever He wishes. Pretty cool, eh?
I want to wish you a belated happy birthday, John, and thank
you from the bottom of my heart for that precious CD. Words
aren't enough to describe all the feelings and memories it
generates. Dad's voice on "When the Deep Purple Falls" was
the best I ever heard him sing. His range was incredible
and all his songs were a treasure to listen to.....such an
Irish tenor, especially in his younger years. Also, I
didn't know what a great voice you had as a teenager, James.
"On this Day" was so sweet to hear and also your duet with
Dad was so good! I never heard many of these recordings.
It's great to have Aunt Sally on tape and to hear Uncle
Bob's voice and his humming while he plays. Gerry, you are
right about the instrumental....it's Uncle Bob, not dad. I
enjoyed hearing Mary and Terry so much too. I thought "Sing,
Sing a Song" was so darn good. The sweetest thing of all
was you, John, when you said "I'm in the choir" with the
cutest little voice in the world at eight years old. I
could go on and on. I hear there's more coming so thank you
for all your effort and I thank you, Joy, as well.
I want to tell everyone that Jordan Boudreau got married
this month in Florida to the sweetest girl named Christina
and we're very excited for him. He and his wife are in
school and Jordan will be receiving a double master's degree
in May in Psychology. He works with autistic children.
They will be home for Christmas.
I'll close for now. I pray all is well with everyone
regardless of the economy. Our God always provides.

Hello Everyone,
This morning I have a couple of questions that I have
wondered about from time to time....
1) I remember coming home from PBS school one day, and
all of the pictures were off the wall...when I asked what
was going on, Mom said we were moving to the lake...What
happened that caused us to pick up and move so suddenly?
2) Is there a recording of, or does anyone ever remember
Dad, Uncle Bobby, and Uncle Danny ever all playing at the
same time on the same piano?
Thanks for any info!!

OK Dad here are some Halloween pictures! And pumpkin carving
and cider pressing too. Liam was a little brown bat (Myotis
lucifugus)and Amy made his costume to match the color of the
bat. Lochlan was a ghost, and we had several of the
neighborhood kids and their parents over for a pumpkin
carving party a couple of days before Halloween. (If you
look closely on the left hand side of the pumpkin carving
shot you can see the pumpkin guts our friend Anne threw at
me in mid-air just before they collided with my left arm).
Amy dressed as Sarah Palin (definitely the scariest costume
on the block this year) and Liam picked out my
costume--'Black Bart.' About two years ago I was telling
Liam his bedtime story, as I do every night, and he asked
for something really scary. So I made up this guy called
Black Bart, who wears all black and his face is a skull. You
can't see it in the picture, but the bandanna around my neck
is actually a skull that starts just below my eyes. When
Liam saw it he insisted I wear it, so what the heck.
The cidering party was the weekend before Halloween and was
really fun--we got together with a bunch of friends and
pressed 850 lbs of apples!
Hope everyone is doing well and I too am looking forward to
seeing some Halloween pictures.

When I was in 3rd or early 4th grade, I over heard mom
and dad talking about the fact that the O'Reilly's were
going to move away because there were "colored" people
moving in the nieghbor hood...soon after, we learned that
we too were going to move and I was HORRIFIED at the
thought of people thinking maybe that's why we were moving
too!! Mom assured me that the "new people" moving in our
nieghborhoood had nothing to do with us moving out, she
explained how everything was cheaper in Waterford & we all
loved the "lake house" anyway. We may never really know
the true reason we left Detroit so quickly but I do know
for a fact it wasn't because "colored people" were moving
in. That sat well with me (1964).
We had a great time in Vegas. Hope everyone is well.

Lucy was a giraffe and baby Johnny was a little frog and
Sarah painted a lilypad on the sling that Big Johnny

Author: gorecop@aol.comRemembering Gramma
As I was praying with a copy of the Magnificat, (a booklet
with the daily mass readings and prayer for each day) I came
across these passages.
They reminded me of Gramma, very fitting to be on the
Sunday following the 12th anniversary of her death and new
life in Heaven. I'm sure this is how she was greeted when
she arrived at the gates!
"Give her a reward of her labors, and let her works praise
her at the city gates. (Prv 31:31)
This followed that verse:
"God's faithful people, women and men alike, praise God by
their lives of faithful, often unsung labor as they put
their gifts to use in the service of family, friends,
neighbors, and strangers. Their reward is assured, though
love, not reward, is their motive"
That pretty much sums her up. Let's all continue to strive
to imitate her as we all pause for a minute and smile at
what ever memory comes to minds now.
Gramma thanks for your beautiful, quiet example. Please
continue to pray for all of us, as we will for you, until we
get to see you and Grandpa again. How blessed we are are to
have had her in our lives.
A big smile came to me just now as I looked out the window
and saw the Blessed Mother statue she had sitting in the
yard covered with just a bit of snow.
Lots of love to all, Tommy

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone in This Great Big Beautiful Family
I wrote a letter before but hit the completely start over button instead of the
add to the big letter button and I was too tired to start over. I know none of
you have done that.
Anyway I so enjoyed the Halloween photos of the costumes, jack o lanterns
and the cider press. Because our house sits so far back from the road we
don't get any trick or treaters.
When the kids were little there weren't many ready made costumes like there
are now. The kids were pirates, princesses, bums and in junior high Star was
a hippie. We didn't have much trouble with his costume.
At their elementary school they had a Haunted House and fun booths, cake
walk, costume contest, etc. One year I won as a witch.
When I was a kid we bobbed for apples in a big tin tub, put candy corn in our
mouth for teeth, played pin the tail on the donkey, drop the most clothespins
in a quart glass milk bottle. We also played a game where we were
blindfolded and put our hand in paper bags. There would be icky things in
the bags and you were told it was dead men's eyes which were peeled
seedless
white grapes, and cooked spaghetti were brains from a corpse. The room was
darkened and I couldn't do more than one or two as it creeped me out so
much even though I knew it was pretend.
Do you have any Halloween memories you would share?
Mom was so very special. Just the other day I was looking at a photo of her
and said, Mom, was such a dresser. " James said, "She sure was." Mom always
had matching colors, pressed and neat.
Mom was so selfless, giving and loving. Remember how she remembered
everyone's birthday with a card and a check for the kids? How did she do all
she did? I guess it was her faith in God and the love of Dad.
She set us all a great example.
Love,
Suzanne

Since we're talking about Grandma (or is it Garma?) I highly recommend
playing track #20! After #20 then try some other good ones of other folks:
#16 followed by #7. ;-)
Thanks Brother Johnny (uncle for me) and my father James for getting me
these audio clips to put up for everyone, they're so amazing!
Note to Uncle Johnny: wma files need to be converted to mp3 files to properly
play in the flash media player here on the family website.
Love to everyone and enjoy the benefits of the 21st century!

How could Dad (Grampa) ever imagine that one day this
music would be able to be heard anywhere in the world
anytime of the day by tens of millions (or at least a
couple 100) How amazing....well kids, the flood gates
have really been opened now...if anyone has any tapes, I
will be glad to convert them to CD, which in turn would
make them available for the Circle...now all I have to do
is figure how to convert WMA's to MP3's... or is it...
STP's to LSMFT's.....hmmmmm
Thanks again Scott

Scott,
Your the man!
Two days ago I herd Johnny's "Family CD" (shedding more than a few
tears in the prosess) and was blown away by it, and promptly loaded it on to
my hard-drive, called Johnny to tell him what a thrill it was to hear these early
recordings.
Yesterday I spoke to Scott and told him about this amazing CD that was on
my hard-drive and he promptly said he would be able to put the CD on to the
Circle Letter, and to send him the sound files. I did it.
I never thought he would move on it so soon.
WOW, WOW, WOW,
Your something else Scott!
I can hardly wait to hear many of the other recordings our family has
made.
One of us, maybe Gerry may have a recording of Grandpa (Greatgrandpa)
singing "That A Funny Place to Kiss a Girl". If anyone has it please let me know.
Love You All Dearly.
Thanks again John and Scott!

Grandma saying "poontang" on #16 (Las Vegas call) is hilarious!! I had to back it
up a few times to make sure I heard it right. And Uncle Johnny sounds all of 7
years old on that same track being proud of singing in the choir. ;-) Very, very
cool stuff! And of course Uncle Tom playing it cool there with the lingo, "pad" lol
, so I guess he's announcing the pregnancy that would lead to the birth of
Thomas Jr.?
Thank you Uncle Johnny for having taken the time to make a CD out of those
audio tapes you've really liberated some treasures!
It's great to see all of the activity on the circle letter. I think we have Uncle
Johnny to thank for that too, ever one to share here and keep the fire burning!

Hi Scott,
It had to be Mary, because I was 10 when Tommy was born,
and on the CD, I was only 7 or 8....The funniest part
about the poontang thing was that it went right over
Tommy's head, but Mom caught it right away....
Isn't this such a blast!

Author: njoynjohn@gmail .comHISTORIC CD TIDBITS
Well, such excitement in the air with this amazing addition
to the circle letter. I had to get on with some thoughts of
my own. Every time I listen to the CD (and that's about
every other day in the car), I have more questions and
comments to make.
First of all, does anyone think that James sounds so much
like Harry Connick, Jr. on Ave Maria? I just love #7 and
James, the reason you ran out of air so much is because you
forgot to breathe....plus you quietly said your throat was
killing you. You sounded great for having a sore throat.
Secondly, when we were recently out in Vegas (which was
great, by the way....Bill is so darn sweet) he said that it
was him playing on #10 and #11. Of course we all know how
much Bill sounded exactly like Uncle Bob. The Bobby/Henri
CD is so Bill. Talk about an amazing talent. I was 15 or
16 when I sang with him but just think, he was only 17 when
he played all those songs. Anyway, those numbers were
played by Bill.
Thirdly, #12 is the Kyrie sang at my wedding on October 15,
1960. Dad never did anything small. In the beginning, you
can hear Fr. Browne whispering the words of the Kyrie (he
must have had a microphone on). Even though it sounds
beautiful, it would have been better if Dad had been singing
with them and directing them. But he was downstairs with mom.
And lastly for now, Mary is the lead singer on "Sing, Sing A
Song". I think someone listed Terry as lead. I just love
that song. I think we all sound so good. Mary you sound so
young like 14 instead of 21.
I also have to say that Uncle Bob is so incredible #23. Is
he playing alone? I think he's playing at a club and it's
his trio with him.
I wondered how the grandchildren were going to get to hear
this stuff without making them all copies...this is too
cool. Well, that's enough for now. Suzanne, I lost my
entire first circle letter too. I wanted to cry.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving. We all have so much to be
thankful for. Our God is an awesome God.
With my love, Nancy
P.S. Johnny, your letters just crack me up. You are so funny.

Encore, encore!!
Wow this music and the conversation is awesome. Tonight
at my house we are all going to gather around the radio,
Oh I mean the computer! and listen to it all together.
I'll get my tape of G & G onto a disc and get it on here
soon. It is a tape they sent for my graduation in 1979,
my favorite is "Little Man, you've had a busy day".
It was wild hearing aunt Fred, I've only heard stories of
her before, was she still alive when I was born in 1961?
Gramma Mattie was great too, I could picture her, wiht a
pie of course, when I heard her on that 1959 phone call.
Johnny, thank you so much for getting this togehter and
Scott for providing the means to get it to the masses!

Author: jIs@windgifts.comTriple Blessings!
Say it with me- God is Great! This past week has been
triply blessed for Jeff and I. We are in awe of God's
greatness and excited to share our experiences with you.
First off, Jeff and I are expecting a little blessing from
above! Yes, we are finally pregnant again. I am only about
6 weeks along, but so far everything is going perfectly.
Mom is praying for twins and interestingly enough it has
been the topic of conversational questioning for the past
three days- little comments like wouldn't it be great if
you had twins or are you in line for twins have been asked
quite often. Aunt Mary, I love the way you found out- :)
Our first ultrasound is on December 16th- that way
everything should be clear and developing well enough to
see by then. Thanks to all who have been keeping us in
your prayers- I know you will continue to do so and we will
keep you in ours as well. Second- My art exhibit this past
weekend went extremely well. I sold three paintings and
have others on hold. Enough to cover my booth fees and
perhaps next months mortgage. It was more than I
expected. The clientele were wonderful people along with
the planners and other venders. I believe my paintings
went to individuals who truly enjoyed the pieces. Thank
you so much for attending- to those of you who were able to
come out for the event. It means so much to have your
support. Third- I just found out this morning that I have
been accepted for the CoReutter-Menagerie Gallery in South
Lyon which will be holding its opening night soon. I will
be one of their many featured artists. I am very excited,
especially since I know how difficult it can be to get into
a gallery. Opening date and time have not yet been
posted. I will pass along the information once I know and
you can always check in at my website to see if any new
developments have taken place. www.shelleystevenson.com
All of these blessings could not have been possible without
your prayers and belief in God's Glory. Love to all.

EVEN THOUGH I WASN'T THERE !!!!
I had called our Michael to see if the gathering was even

I LOVE family get togethers.
He mentioned to me that there was a raffle going on for
some of Mary Garlak's art. Of course, I wanted in. So my
family bought me some raffle tickets....(for which I wlll
repay them post haste !).......and guess what ????
Esther won the most coveted prize of the day!!!!! A
driftwood Santa that Mary did her magic on.
Lucky me....sorry about your luck to the rest of you !
Plus, I won two more other prizes.
Michael will be delivering them to us when his
family comes to Maryland to visit us two days after
Christmas.
Merry Christmas to all....I truly enjoyed (almost) being

Author: njoynjohn@gmail.comA Favorite Christmas Story for 2008
Hello family,
I was telling brother Gerry this story and he asked me to
share it with all of you via the circle letter.
As many of you know, Santa is quite busy at this time of
year, so here in Salisbury Tom helps him out occasionally
by making some Santa visits for him. Kathy and Jenny are
his helpers. They have beautiful red velvet suits trimmed
with white fur, etc. They are all quite impressive
together. Of course, the little children are delighted to
see him...but to see adults loving Santa really melts your
heart !
The story starts with our Kathy...she heard of a fund
raiser from our Lower Shore Enterprises. It is a place
for our local people with physical or mental
disabilities / challenges, where they can work, be trained
to do simple jobs and feel productive.
They were making gift baskets for Christmas: teas, hot
chocolate packets, local caramel corn, etc. She bought a
few of them without even seeing them just to support their
cause. When she went to pick them up, she was amazed at
how beautiful they were. The people were so grateful to
her, hugging her saying "thank you Kathy, thank you Kathy,
etc." When she got home, she decided to order several more
baskets for gifts.
The next day, Santa made a visit to Lilly's (Danny's 2
year old daughter) nursery school. When they left, they
thought that while they were so dressed up...they would
drop by Lower Shore Enterprises for a surprise visit and
to order the extra baskets.
Here were the challenged people working hard, all doing
their various jobs. When Santa came in , they were Sooo
happy to see him ! Santa and the helpers were working the
room, visiting with all the people, getting and giving
hugs and candy canes. Remember, these are all ADULTS
with disabilities. One of the women was singing
"you'd better watch out, you'd better not cry...."
all the words to Santa Claus is coming to town...she sang
the whole song twice.
What Tom didn't know until he got out to the car was that
the director had told Kathy that THAT WOMAN HAS NOT SPOKEN
MORE THAN TWO WORDS A WEEK SINCE SHE HAS BEEN THERE !!!
But somehow, seeing Santa, brought something out in her
and she was singing !
Let's always remember to count our blessings.
Merry Christmas,
Esther

Greetings from snowy Seattle! We have experienced an absolutely unprecedented amount of cold and
snow here over the past two weeks. The city (and the entire region, actually) has come to a complete
standstill. I'm not certain what the total snowfall accumulation is to date, but I would estimate
something like 1.5 - 2 feet. To give you a sense of how rare this is, our city of 600,000 owns only
27 snowplows! Those plows are equipped with rubber-covered blades, so as not to damage the street
surfaces, manhole covers, etc,; and the city does not use salt due to the potentially negative
ecological impacts to Puget Sound. The result is that just about every non-arterial street in
Seattle is covered with an impenetrable layer of ice about 4-6" thick. Did I mention that our fair
city is also extremely hilly? If you've never been here, think San Francisco, but with more hills
that aren't quite as high. School was canceled all last week, and very few people were able to get
to work. So, we played in the snow! We built snowmen, went sledding, and even went snowboarding down
our own street! I put a video of Amy riding down our street on YouTube,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gxz7LmMmas I took a few runs too, but wanted something a bit
steeper. I hiked up the next street to the north, to nearly the top of our hill, and some friendly
neighbors who were out sledding offered to spot me when I crossed 3rd Ave NW (a major arterial, but
for reasons explained above, nearly devoid of traffic). I managed to ride all the way down NW 48th
St from Market to 6th Ave NW! It was exhilarating, and probably a once-in-a-lifetime experience. So
naturally I immediately hiked back up the hill and did it again! :)
We are making the best of things, and the boys have loved every minute of this rare meteorological
treat.
I hope everyone out there is doing great, and wish you a wonderful non-denominational Winter Holiday. :)
Love,
Matt, Amy, Liam and Lochlan

Author: jis@windgifts.comHappy Birthday Jesus!!!
Well... we just got home from an AMAZING program at our
church tonight... the last of SEVEN services and it has
been an exhausting run but worth ALL THE EFFORT... WE
ROCKED THE HOUSE!!!! Alot of very talented people from
technicians to lighting crews to producers, directors,
actors, singers, etc... it was FABULOUS!!! And Chris (our
Pastor)is just one gifted man...so humble, so normal
and "cool" yet right on the money with his uncompromised
message sbout forgiveness and redemption and "identity
theft"... well ... He weaved it all together so perfectly
you would've had to have been there but ...hey... if you
want to check it out for yourself...
just click onto orchardgrove.org in a day or so
and the message will be there... there were over 1000
people at each of the services... If I can get copies of
the service on DVD I will make copies and send it to anyone
who wants to see it.
So.... until I hear from any of you let me be the first to
say HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO JESUS CHRIST ( after all~ that's what
we're really celebrating today DEC 25th... A CELEBRATION TO
REMEMBER JESUS CHRIST'S DAY OF ARRIVAL INTO THIS
PLANET...knowing this wasn't the "actual day" of HIS birth
but a "rememberence") and you are SO RIGHT, SCOTT...it's
ALL ABOUT LOVE and Jesus Christ's LOVE for us is
unparallelled ( forgive my misspelling~ there's no
spellcheck on this site)...so wherever you all are... hope
that your individual "birthday" parties are the most joyous
ever....
Call me old fashioned ... but I still like to call it by
what it is... CHRISTMAS :) and I say that in the most
sincere,respectful way I can...so don't get the wrong
idea :)
I mean~just like when THE 4th of July gets here we'll
celebrate that day for what it represents too... And the
countries that didn't declare their independence on that
day won't be celebrating...because they have no reason
to... it's all about REPRESENTATION for the people it means
something to...
I love you ALL more than you could EVER imagine!!!
Sooooo.... Have yourselves a Merry little
Christmas ...now...

Author: bhnhr12@comcast.netYes indeed, well done Aunt Mary! :-)
You were so right about mentioning that the birth of Jesus is simply observed
on the 25th of December.
The following section of the Encarta article on Christmas that covers the
origins of Christmas is quite enlightening:
http://encarta.msn.com/text_761556859___2/Christmas.html
Apparently if Roman traditions had been held we'd be celebrating "Saturnalia"
and honoring another god, "Saturn" the god of agriculture or else original
Pagan festivals of the Winter Solstice. :-)
This article by Wade Cox of a Woden, Australia organization referring to itself
as "Christian Churches of God" seems to be a bit of a Christian protest both
against the celebrations of Christmas and Easter on the dates now observed
in the west:
http://www.ccg.org/english/s/p235.html
With all of the religious strife in the world I just wanted to put out the notion
that love really should be celebrated because no matter one's belief (Christian, lIslam,
Judaism, Hinduism, Buddhism, etc. and yes even atheism) everyone seems to
agree on the tenets of love.
And I too mean no disrespect and simply wanted to share an idea that is
based on what I believe to be a universal truth ("love") across all belief
systems.
So with that I send you my heartfelt expression of love!
Love,

Well. Sorry about not keeping updated to the site, but Merry
(late) Christmas from James, Chitomi, Joseph, Sammy, And JT.
Hope you guys are keeping warm in these friged temps. We are
freezing down here in LA.
Yesterday (Christmas), while it was raining, we went up to
our local mountains to see the snow. It was a long and
really miserable journey, but I got some really nice shots
of the mountain with my sweet nice camera. It was pouring
really hard on the way up there and the higher we got, the
more the rain turned to ice. It rained for half of the time
up there, then when we reached the peak, it started snowing
huge flakes. It was pretty gorgeous. Well, with all that
rain and snow, the roads became icy and cause massive backup
on the road down. We had to wait in a line of cars for at
least 3 hours just to get 4 miles down the mountain. It was
cool up there. cold. Freezing cold. Haha.
So. I read about something of doing a Instant mesage chat
with everyone? I do it all the time! Ask me if you need some
help starting it up ok John?
I'll hopefully get some new pictures up soon of all what
i've been doing this past month. If not, Just check my

Anyways. Hoping all of you had a great Christmas, Lovemas
day or what ever you celebrate, and hope that we have
another good year in 09.

Did you know that Christmas is actually celebrated in the church as an
octave? Yes, Christmas, as well as Easter, is celebrated as an octave. It is
actually an 8 day, day!
Here is a little history.
Why celebrate for eight days? The practice actually is as ancient as the Old
Testament, as old as approx. 1300 BC. The Hebrew people observed many of
their feasts for a period of eight days. The “Feast of Tabernacles” and the
“Dedication of the Temple” are two of the more notable. Later, the Roman
Emperor Constantine (330 AD) continued the tradition by celebrating the
dedication of basilicas in the Christian World for the same period of eight
days. Today we celebrate two feasts with Octaves: Easter (being the more
prominent) and Christmas.
Again, so why celebrate for eight days? Life in the ancient world was so
hectic and filled with pressure and families had grown apart and were being
swept up in the older pagan traditions, the Church granted a period of eight
days in order to contemplate the mysteries experienced in the Church’s
liturgy. Comparatively speaking, we obviously need the Octave even more
than the Christians of the ancient world! The ancient world did not have
television, shopping malls, computers, cell phones, fast food, automobiles,
magazines and newspapers… if the Ancients were easily distracted, what has
become of us!? We need to enjoy this time! If you need, take off work, visit
family, feast, attend Mass or Church services, pray, praise God, visit the poor,
celebrate charity, and most of all be humbled before the Mystery: The Word
of God has become flesh - fully human and fully divine!
I learned this several years ago and wanted to share some of this cool church
history with the class!
Love you all, Merry Christmas; Tommy, Jeanne, Sophie, Carly Dillon and Emilie

Author: njoynjohn@gmail.comPrayers for Emilie today
Tonight Emilie has an MRI, we're asking for your prayers that she can be still for
the 45 minutes it will take for the test, a lot to ask for a 7 year old!
Here is a little background as to why. We took her into the doctor Monday
because she has been complaining that her right clavicle has been hurting. It is
swollen. We have been worried too - she has had dark circles under eyes for a
few weeks, at least. We took her to the doctor - an x-ray showed a
growth/abnormalities. She has an MRI scheduled for this Friday at
7:15pm. Please pray she can make it through the MRI without being
sedated (if this is the case, the test needs to be rescheduled.) We are praying
that is is only a cyst, but need the MRI to tell the Drs what is going on there.
Through the intercession of St. Peregrine, St. Therese (she has a
special devotion to her) and St. Margaret Mary (her patron saint -
middle name), may the Lord bring healing.
With grateful hearts,
Tommy and Jeanne

Author: tstevens@visteon.comHappy New Year's 2009! Video Greeting
First before I go any further I just want to send my words of support to Tom &
Jeanne and family's Emilie. May the love and support Emilie has from our
family combine with the medical reasoning and knowledge that doctors
working with her have at their disposal to see that she gets well soon and
feels as good as new in short order! I hope that whatever is found to be the
cause will be relatively simple to overcome!
With that said the timing of my following New Year's greeting feels a bit odd
but please just know that I had this all prepared before getting this news
about Emilie. Please bear with me if this doesn't work out right away as this
message will be the first live attempt to make this video system work!
Get the Adobe Flash Player or enable Javascript / Flash to see this player.Click here to download this video file (or right click and select "save as").
For folks wanting to add a video to the circle letter there are a few technical
requirements. The video must be saved in MP4 (or Flash Video - FLV- ask me
about this) format with the following requirements:
The video codec has got to be H.264 and the audio codec has got to be either
MP3 or AAC.
I realize that these technical limitations are liable to put a bit of a crimper on
folks working out how to add their videos but with a little patience and help
from myself I'm sure that together we can overcome these.
So with these words I send everyone my love and tender thoughts at the
dawning of this new year 2009!

I'm still amazed that all the music got pulled off, given that Grampa went on to

Tom,
Good to hear that Emilie did well for her MRI! That's certainly a big first step
in the right direction to understanding what's going on. As I say in the below
video, may she get well soon!
Get the Adobe Flash Player or enable Javascript / Flash to see this player.Click here to download this video file (or right click and select "save as").
On to this video:
Now I can relate to those snowy photos everyone's been sharing here! :-)
It's snowing here quite a bit (in fact it's the most I have seen since I began
living here in 2000). In the above video I mention the date as January 4th but
in fact I just recorded it so the recording date is actually January 5th.
I did some more work on the Circle Letter Software and now it is possible to
add Windows Media Video files (and soon Windows Audio - wma).
In order for WMV files to play on the Circle Letter folks may need to install
Microsoft's Silveright plugin from the following address:
http://silverlight.net/
There is a plugin for most computer operating systems (including one for
Intel based Macintoshes). Alternatively folks can just opt to download the
video and play it on their computers with whatever software will play Window
Media files on their system.
For Macintosh users the Quicktime plugin/component "Flip4Mac" available
here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx
Will allow Quicktime to play Windows Media files (even in browsers).
As of its current version the Silverlight plugin plays these file types:
WMV1: Windows Media Video 7
WMV2: Windows Media Video 8
WMV3: Windows Media Video 9
WMVA: Windows Media Video Advanced Profile, non-VC-1
WMVC1: Windows Media Video Advanced Profile, VC-1
WMA 7: Windows Media Audio 7
WMA 8: Windows Media Audio 8
WMA 9: Windows Media Audio 9
MP3: ISO/MPEG Layer-3
So that should open up the sharing possibilities quite a bit!
Ok everyone, sending my love to you all!

Today we met with the oncologist (Jeanne, Emilie and I). We really liked him
and his nurse. They were so wonderful with Emilie, and with us. He went over
her MRI, x-rays, and took more x-rays and lab work. It is still a worrisome
case and we/they don't yet know all we need to know. There are more steps
that need to happen now, a CT scan, full body bone scan and a biopsy. These
will begin possibly as soon as tomorrow (CT scan) and over the course of the
next week or so. Time is not a threat, thank God, so no worries there. Wish
we had more, but this is not a "text book" case, maybe that is a good thing.
What is good now is that the ball is rolling and with it a sense of peace too.
The prayers are being felt so powerfully - the graces are so amazing - Thank
you all. Keep it up.
Emilie is very chipper, and knows that they are trying to "fix" her collar bone,
which in truth is all we really know too. That is enough for her right now. She
was very comfortable with the doctor. When he spoke, it was to her, the
medical history he took from her, with our assist. He knelt on the floor so he
could be eye to eye with her and she thought he was funny too. Jeanne and I
are comfortable that we are in good hands, and our grateful for the excellent
recommendations.
We'll keep you all in the loop as timely as we can.
Thanks for everything! The blessing of family is such a great gift.
